SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
Re: SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
It is a pretty solid album two years on. It's not as good as Electric but I do think it is (so far) standing the test of time. To be honest there's not a single PSB album I actually dislike. They're all good. I just like some more than others. My current ranking is:
1. Behaviour
2. Very
3. Actually
4. Fundamental
5. Electric
6. Introspective
7. Yes
8. Super
9. Please
10. Bilingual
11. Nightlife
12. Elysium
13. Release
1. Behaviour
2. Very
3. Actually
4. Fundamental
5. Electric
6. Introspective
7. Yes
8. Super
9. Please
10. Bilingual
11. Nightlife
12. Elysium
13. Release
I'm always waiting...

An album of mixed lollies!
I enjoy it but I have to rate it at the bottom - because it's less thematic and slightly less considered than all the other albums - would be unfair to rate it any higher!
Still, it's fun and gets a spin.

Thematically, it's great. It's all about getting out of your head, forgetting, and losing sentience - with the sad robots giving it an ironic twist as they go in the opposite direction, become sentient and cry. It's their drug album.

Relentless is my "drug" album of choice.
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

Super is at number 9 in my list, it wasn't as good as Electric to my ears but neither was as good as everything above it in my list, I only really listen now to Inside a Dream and Burn as essential tracks from these 2 albums...

Re: SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
Not sure Super is thematically about getting out of your head - to me, anyway. If it were they wouldn't of put heavily view tracks like Dictator, Twenty and Thin Air on there. Those tracks are like stepping off a continental shelf compared to the more lighthearted and zany tracks.
It's more of a mixed bag of ideas, in my view, but each to their own.

Re: SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
Both the Dictator Decides and Into Thin Air are explicitly about escaping from oneself. There’s a consistent thread throughout the whole album of leaving current reality behind, from Happiness - where the protagonist wants to escape Barnyard USA for a better life - through the Pop Kids where we leave the present for the early ‘90s, via the aforementioned despot on the verge of abdication and exile, to the final flight of Into Thin Air.
There’s an awful lot of escaping reality going on on this record - or more specifically an awful lot of wishing to get away from it all without necessarily doing so. Even the cover art brings to mind a pill.
But yes, each to their own interpretation. Good art often allows for multiple perspectives - and Super is very good art indeed.

Just because it rates near the bottom of the list, doesnt mean its poor. Its just very difficult for anything to dislodge a lot of PSB albums.
I'd rate it similar to @PopArt list above. Although 'Please' would be much higher. Theres only Release and Elysium i dont listen to.

Re: SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
I guess it's around #6 on my personal PSB list. Burn is one of their best songs. Happiness is great, Dictator too. And Into Thin Air.
It's amazing that such a great album isn't even one of PSBs best albums. that's how good they are.

Re: SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
Without ranking the albums I'd say somewhere in the bottom half of the list. It's definitely not one of their best.
Re: SUPER (2 years later, we'll see its popularity)
It's very difficult to assess this. For me,it is still a very good album.I really have no skipper on this record,on the most other albums I have.
Super is in Top 6 for me,with the great tracks Pop Kids,Burn,Say it to me,Undertow,Dictator and -for me still the best track and one of the best tracks ever ever ever, the fabulous Inner Sanctum.
