That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant

Pretty much all the imperial phase a sides outdid their respective b sides for me, but after then:

I didn't get where I am today - Flamboyant
A certain je ne sais quoi - Winner
Hit and miss & the truck driver and his mate - Before
Disco potential - Somewhere (controversial but I love that b side)
Friendly Fire - I get along
Party song & bright young things - Numb
Sexy Northerner - Home and Dry
How I learned to hate rock and roll - se a vida e
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

I dont even know what records where on what single. So Google it is.

Definates ;-

The Ressurectionist beats Im With Stupid.
A Cloud in a Box beats Say It To Me. (Just not a fan of it)
A Certain Je Ne Sais beats Winner
Hit and Miss + Truck Driver both bury Before.
Miserablism owns Was It Worth It

Close ;-

After The Event v Did You See Me Coming
Bright Young Things v Numb ( the demo would easily win)

Didnt bother with download only songs. No idea what was classed as a single and what wasnt. Theres some absolute classics that miss out because the A side is too good. Some poor singles get away with it because the B side is rubbish.

A Certain Je Ne Sais beats Winner
Hit and Miss + Truck Driver both bury Before.
Miserablism owns Was It Worth It

Nothing is better than Before, but I buy these ones:

Miserablism better than Was It Worth It?
The Ressurectionist than I'm With Stupid.
A Certain Je Ne Sais than Winner

These B sides aren't necessarily better than their respective A sides, but all four songs are phenomenal on their own:

Do I Have To --> Always On My Mind
A New Life --> What Have I Done To Deserve This

This is a great b-side, but the a-side is equally brilliant for me.

I love "Hey, Headmaster" but frankly I'm surprised that several of you are stating that it's better than "Can You Forgive Her?"!!

That's a difficult question to answer. But, I'd agree that the "Imperial Era" A-Sides are generally stronger, at least for the average listeners at the time. However, the Bilingual era brought a massive change. Many of those B-sides are a least as strong as the Bilingual tracks. A slight dip in the Nightlife period, but Release gave us the fabulous "Always", and aside from a few subsequent demo-ish B-sides, many of the later B-sides have been very strong tracks in their own right.
