Books mentioning the Boys

#1 Post by Vince »

I thought we should have a list of books which mention the Pet Shop Boys.

Of course we start with Wayne's site list:
http://www.geowayne.com/newDesign/extras/books.htm

Spotted these on amazon.in
Pet Shop Boys Unauthorized & Uncensored:
http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00ZD9L0NY
Hollywood: Influential Singers Biographies Vol.8:
http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B011PQJS9Q

Though i don't wish to buy the above two.

Have spotted PSB mentioned in other books such as Robbie Williams' multiple biographies. Will put up scans when i can.

Hope others can add stuff too!

They're mentioned in glowing terms in Inside Little Britain. I bought it for a euro, was worth every cent

I saw Patsy Kensit's autobiography, think it was called Absolute Beginner, in a discount shop recently. Couldn't resist having a nose to see what she says about them, and she said they're nice but it's a short mention. She says how she fought them to have I'm Not Scared released under the name Eighth Wonder, as they wanted it as Patsy Kensit. Anyway, after reading a few lines I decided that it was badly written and she was utterly conceited and I wasn't going to spend even 2 euro on something that would do my head in :wall:

Have that old Michael Cowton (I think) book too, the unofficial biography, which isn't a bad read.

The boys are mentioned in Derek Jarman's biography. Nothing Earth-shattering, but still.

I heard an interview on Radio 4 with Tessa Niles about her autobiography - "Backtrack: The Voice Behind Music's Greatest Stars" - and I believe PSB get a mention or two.

They're mentioned in Chris Evans first biography a couple of times. Once about a party that they ended up at at Chris Evan's house after an edition of TFI Friday singing round the piano with Gazza and also Chris's flat is mentioned in one of the top ten lists at the start of every chapter as one of the nicest houses Chris Evans been in.

Anyone know what the extra material in the second edition of Literally is as mentioned on Geowayne's page?

I believe it's just a brief addendum, dated May 1992, to the final Epilogue chapter, which in the first edition ended with August 1990. It amounts to the equivalent of just two additional pages, although it's spread out across three pages. It simply summarizes very briefly a few things the Boys had done in the intervening period.

Since I don't have the first edition, I can't say for sure that's the only additional material, but it would seem to make sense.

I just bought Boy George's autobiography , "Take It Like A Man", which has a noteworthy mention of Neil.

I wonder who all Neil slagged off as a journo, only to become contemporary to them later on. Hehe.

Haha wish I'd seen that exchange! Neil fleeing!
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

There is a chapter titled "Praying the Confiteor at Westminster Abbey: Four-on-the-floor Apocalypse" in:

Mike Grimshaw, The Counter-Narratives of Radical Theology and Popular Music: Songs of Fear and Trembling, published by Palgrave Macmillan.

Neil also had a mention in the 2003 biography about Suede called Love & Poison. He was in New York in August 1994 and spent an afternoon hanging out with Brett Anderson and, according to the book, spent an afternoon 'partying'. There's then another mention from the autumn of 1996 when Neil sang with the band at the Roundhouse in London.
I'm always waiting...
