How the f__k would she have been exposed to PSB enough to think of them at that time. Bizarre.

It is weird...
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

I’m wondering if one of the writers fed her that line. I mean, given her age and cultural background and the Boys’ pitiful profile here it’s hard to imagine her having their name on the tip of her tongue. I don’t even think many 25 year old gay men in US even know of the PSB. I’m 41 and I’m on the young side of American fandom.

Probably the first time she's seen a guy in a suit that wasn't a record exec or an A&R man.

She's surely seem them on VH1 Classics or something. I can't imagine she's that oblivious to 80s and 90s acts. Now if she had said 'The Smiths' I might think she was fed a line.

It could have nothing to do with their music or who they actually are... it might just be a name (PSB) that represents 'British' or England to her, from TV and word of mouth over the years.

According to interviews, she listened to PSB all her childhood. Her mother is a fan, and so she became one also.

And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

That's so cool! despite their commercial decline in the USA, clearly they are an influence and held in high esteem, good on Cardi. John Mulaney on the other hand, probably had to recollect who they were :?
I was born in a hospital room with green walls, the doctor who delivered me wore a green overall, so did the nurses hovering around. So much greenery around, its no wonder that it is my favourite colour !

The Boys’ classic look circa West End Girls is fairly well remembered in the U.S. and gets referenced on TV every few years. Saturday Night Live has done so, and so did Mystery Science Theater 2000 in the ‘90s. The West End girls video is considered iconic by anyone who knows music-video history, which plenty of millennial and hip-hop acts do. The Boys’ music is also better known than you might think: they were a real chart group in the late ‘80s and have been heard in ‘80s flashback radio programming ever since.

So completely meaningless to me for a modern 'artist' produced and promoted beyond their talent to be referencing any actual musician.
