I know yesterday (13th March) was the first time a new PSB track had been played in ages, but (as per the long standing forum rules) in future all public requests for copies of any new track, PSB or otherwise, will be deleted and/or threads containing requests closed. We will officially...
Not yet a Pet Shop Boys but Smash Hits magazine’s latest scribe, Neil Tennant’s first trip to the US saw him interview Phil Collins & Genesis AND review Blondie, Elvis Costello & A Flock Of Seagulls.
But as he said himself, “a lot of it isn’t...
Sorry if this has been covered before. I was giving Very a fresh listen today and despite having listened to it many, many times, today I heard it in a totally different way.
It holds together as a concept album of a man's lived journey of sexual discovery, love, loss, health scare, insecurity,...
I just made a transcription of probably the first radio interview PSB did for Dutch radio, on Countdown Cafe, January 1986 as documented in Annually. Afterwards they played Shep Pettibone's Mastermix of West End girls.
There's probably some typos in it, I gave it to an AI who transcribed it and...

So by January 1986 they had already half of the album made.
As always I come to think about the possibilities for a 1985 album. This could've been one with lots of different producers. Something like this (disregarding rights issues but based on what's been releases and what was, as we know,...
Here we are, out here in the far future in 2024, and it is very exciting to think we are only weeks away from a new PSB 'era' beginning. It is also hard to imagine that Hotspot came out nearly four years ago. With the pandemic changing everyone's life in so many ways, early 2020 seems like a...

And there it is for all you debaters, yesterday I finally got excited over the prospect of soon getting to hear the new single. I'm sorry it took so long.
I can't believe it will be a slow song. I'm hoping for something political.
I happen to really like this album, and also love the Musik EP.
Anyway, I finally decided to ask around here, why the last track Positive Role Model (Straight) has such a low volume? The transition from the previous track to this is so obvious, you must raise the volume.
Is this present on all...

Just back from watching Jonathan Pie on his uk tour. His “coming on” music was Positive Role Model! Jonathan Pie is a fictional news reporter played by Tom Walker.
Tom Walker played Mile-end Lee in the original 2001 run of Closer To Heaven
I never knew Jonathan Pie was Tom Walker!...
Hello everyone, I'm new here and just hoping someone can answer a question about In Denial. I have seen that there is an Orchestral Version of In Denial, but I can't find it or any information about it anywhere other that it being listed on the MixKylie website.

It's a Woodstock moment.
Were you there when we downloaded exclusive tracks from the official site?
My answer is: sort of... almost... I listened to them... maybe I downloaded a few of them.
Hi all,
I thought i would bring this to the attention of fans who haven't visited the website 80's casuals.they have fabulous PANINARO/SUBURBIA inspired t shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies.really nice designs, and the quality is far greater than the merch we buy when the boys are touring.
Really nice...

Cool Bought one. Thanks. Agree 10000% about how awful their official merch is. New Order has been doing cool merch collabs lately. PSB are stuck in the 80s.
Anyone seen the piece on the boys in Disco Pogo magazine #4? Any good? Is it just a review, a feature or (hopefully) an interview? Worth getting? Thanks
Pet Shop Boys today announce the release on DVD, Blu-ray and CD of their show ‘Inner Sanctum’, filmed at London’s Royal Opera House during a sold-out run last summer.
Staged by designer Es Devlin and choreographer/director Lynne Page, the show was filmed by director David Barnard and will be...
I'm listening to a few songs.... Auf Wiedersehen at the moment.... and a few others later.... and I think it's time to give Neil Tennant the Nobel Prize in literature. I hope we can all agree that the level he keeps and the number of years he has done it puts him in a position to be considered for...
Released 10 years ago (give or take a few days in different countries) - where’s that time gone?
One of my favourite PSB albums. In complete contrast to Elysium and contains some classic PSB tracks which stand up very well in their back catalogue. I had a great summer listening to this album at...

I've said it before on this forum and I'll say it again, as a fan since 1988, Electric IS the album I always wished PSB would make.
You're absolutely right but I didn't this fact until I heard the album. It's where they reach a whole new level, not only soundwise but also lyrically. This is one...
First up, I apologise to everyone here who grew up with Opportunities, West End Girls and Please. There is no PSB music before that so this whole post does not apply to you.
For everyone else lets discuss this.
Can you think back to the first Pet Shop Boys songs you heard. The ones recently...

The song that made me a fan was Abdolutely Fabulous. When I first heard it, it was in March 1999, so it wasn't a recent one. I had heard the whole Very album at some point when I was much younger. My first PSB album was Bilingual and it's still my favourite one. I like all the eras equally, though.
Anyone watch the Noel Coward documentary over Christmas? Made me reappreciate what a lovely song Sail Away is. Great in The Italian Job too, obviously.

Overheard a conversation about Coward a few months ago and thought I'd ask and I turned out to be sharing a Tube carriage with the writer of the new Coward Biography Oliver Soden!
A million times over Erasure has been seen as the most similar band to the Pet Shop Boys, yet, there is almost nothing similar about them. Erasure does mostly synth, while PSB does dance. Erasure is plink plonk, while PSB is a smooth ride. Erasure don't care about their lyrics, PSB do. And on and...

Erasure have the best “One Track”. The one that would get fans, casuals and non-fans up out of their seats, no matter who you are…and that track is “A little respect”. When that song starts, everyone erupts. It has a bigger effect than “It’s a sin”, “Always on my mind” “Go West” etc…but…other than...
As we approach the 24th anniversary of Nightlife (October 1999), I was wondering if options about it have changed in the years since its release?
At the time, Q magazine hailed it as their best album. However, most other critics were less kind. Amongst fans, it’s rare to see Nightlife top - or...

With the exception of the singles I was never a HUGE fan of this album (save for the singles and first two tracks) - in fact, for a long time I thought that 'Release', 'Nightlife' and 'Fundamental' were their three weakest albums for the longest time. But this thread has had me re-evaluate...
Sleaford Mods cover West end Girls as their new (charity) single with a remix by PSB to follow!!!!!

Its the 15th best Selling vinyl single og 2023, in front of tracks like Padam Padam, and Hold on to know by Kylie Minogue and
Rolling Stones Sweet Sound of Heaven fedt. Lady Gaza and Steve Wonder.
Why wasn't CTH that good in the end? Well, the creation of more or less two albums at the same time (NF and R) and the story.
They should've waited with the musical until they had a great story. The Young Irish man coming to London to perform, realising he's gay isn't very unique story. Creating a...

There was the great fun in the original run of watching the cast members change things around slightly and being even more risqué - especially for the last performance of Frances Barber as Billie Trix in CTH if I remember correctly!
Just listening to BBC6 Music and an interview with Paul Weller mentions this...his latest track does sound more electronic so perfect for a remix I guess. When did Neil and Chris last remix someone else's track? :) :D Interesting indeed.

This is for the people who want this track on CD.
Universal Music Japan will release Japan exclusive Paul Weller - Fat Pop Extra which includes Cosmic Fringes (Pet Shop Boys Triad Mix) on track 7.
Dreamworld Tour, which is your preference in terms of them performing it in the setlist.
Curious what the general consensus is.
If you haven't heard either, there are plenty of clips on Youtube.

I was at the concert in Stockholm 2022 when they did Losing my mind . One year later in Gothenburg it was replaced by Paninaro and I was jealous of those who got to see that show instead! It would have been fun to see Chris sing live, which I haven't experienced myself. Also I would have preferred...
Is this the best non- single record of all time? I reckon so....

Not putting the 9 minute extended mix on FL is a glaring omission.
Imagine beginning Behaviour with 10:40 Being Boring, then 9:30 This Must Be.... and ending it with 8:00 Othello/Jealousy. Majestic masterpiece.
Yes, what were they thinking? Why is it not yet released as a bonus track? I also...
Geowayne says the possible inspiration for the video is possible the arcade game Hang On.
My thoughts are, considering that One Thing Leads To Another is based on Super Mario Bros on the NES . . . I feel KDX 125 might have been inspired by the NES game Mach Rider.
I saw Andrew Haigh's new film All of Us Strangers today and thought it was incredibly good. A very powerful film. It features PSB's Always On My Mind in one of the best scenes. The film also uses a bit of I Want A Dog is another scene. Highly recommend it.

I watched this movie last week and it was very good. It's very emotional but the music used throughout the film was really good.
To counter the underrated thread I join in with the opposite: the overrated PSB songs.
And I go BY FACTS!
PSB overrated Love comes quickly. They thought it was a beautiful, great track but it didn't reach that high on the charts.
They perhaps also overrated Domino dancing, it wasn't as successful as they might have thought...

Go West and New York City Boy so overrated
Vocal for me is epic and proper Pet Shop Boys banger.
I think that they have so many underrated songs to choose from the three which comes to my mind immediately are I'm Not Scared, You only tell me you love me when're drunk and The Sodom and Gomorrah show. All three songs are really really good and one of the best less known by them.
I can’t remember what I put, exactly, but here’s the gist…
A couple of weeks back, due to my social media presence, I was invited to sing at Abbey Road Studios on a charity Christmas single. I’m not much of a singer, but with PSB’s history there, I couldn’t say no.
We recorded in studio 3, which...

It’s a shame you couldn’t recreate Always On My Mind/In My House but substitute the “In My House” bit to “In My Mouth” 😁

The arrangements are just divine. Some songs have a new life, much better than the previous tour. Especially favourable sound: Heart, Where the streets have no name, Being boring, Love comes quickly, Paninaro and Dreamland sound better with another vocalist.
Myself (Graham) and Dog (Chris) have made the brave (or foolish!) move to record a series of Pet Shop Boys fan podcasts.
Prior to recording, we had only met once ‘on a wet Wednesday night’ in a pub near where we both live in West Yorkshire in the north of England. But we thought it might be fun...
Axel was a fan from PSB and November Rain was created taking into account My October Symphony . Axel was watching the Performance concert in Los Angeles in 1991 and asked to Neil why they didn't play Being Boring . He loved this song.

Never bought into this idea that My October Symphony influenced November Rain considering there are demos of November Rain dating back to 1985.
Sure, but the final recording may have been influenced by it.
If only I had known about stuff like this when listening to the stuff in 1990-1991
Just watched the primavera São Paulo concert
During Domino Dancing she stopped playing then few seconds later it looked like she had to be helped off stage
Hope she is ok

‘They’ and ‘them’ can be used to refer to anyone.
“They were out jogging in the park.”
“It didn’t occur to them at all.”
Doesn’t need to be multiple people, doesn’t need to be someone who’s gender neutral.
True, it's just there was even more ambiguity as ''them'' could have also meant the band...
