Re: Super - One year on...

Dictator and Sad Robot World are favourites but overall it's not that great an album. From the last three I prefer Elysium, and Yes is their best from the last decade.

One of the crowd wrote:Ryuichi Sakamoto
It nearly happened twice (late 1980s and was discussed in 2005), still might but Sakamoto is a long long way from pop music now.

Re: Recommended/possible future collaborations

Have you come across any contemporary musical acts lately and thought that they could have a fruitful collaboration with Neil and Chris? My vote would be for them to get together with Metafive, a Japanese supergroup with a rich electronic-based music history. I specifically think that Towa Tei's fu...

Re: Not So Super...

I can't stand "Happiness" but it's the one tune that won't leave my head! The rest of the album has really grown on me over the weekend and I think it works as a whole. Now if only they hadn't included "Happiness'!

Re: Sad Robot World audio problems?

This and "Electric" and "Elysium" have all used filters and FX on top of the synths to give some atmosphere and these sounds are just part of that. Neil's vocals are heavily treated on some tracks too. Nothing here is a problem although in general I don't like over-use of vinyl noise and there are a...

Re: Pop Art Live tracks ?

Are you using iTunes match? Many people have found that Match wrongly matches versions of songs - I had exactly the situation you describe with "Are Friends Electric" by Gary Numan where I ripped a CD but on my phone the live version plays via Match. Another issue I had was with Echo & The Bunnymen'...

Re: Neil and Mark Farrow at London College of Communication.

One funny moment was when Neil talked about he and Chris wondering if Mapplethorpe would get them to do anything unusual in their photo session (the "self portrait with whip" image was just on screen). When the sleeve for "I Get Along" was shown the host said this was his work I thought (?). He seem...

Re: Discovering Release

I have a real soft spot for release, it was a great time to be a fan, with them playing the pre-release University Tour in small venues, and then the tour itself mostly in theatres so you could see them play easily. It was so unusual to see them with a full live band, no dancers or lasers, although ...

Re: Do you think the crowd is enthusiastic with no hits?

I don't really see this as a problem, all live acts expect a bigger response to certain songs no matter who they are. I think the group manage a good balance. My only criticism - and this applies to most acts now who depend on pre-programmed synths and lighting - is that the set remans the same pret...

Re: An album of Cover Songs?

Bad idea unless they pick unusual or lesser-known songs. It won't increase their chances of airplay and I don't want an album of cheesy covers. There's a whole world of pop music out there that is less well-known, especially songs not performed in the English language. They could take the best tunes...

Hallo Spaceboy is great, and it featured in the V&A Bowie exhibition video wall, it fitted in really well.

Re: 80's popsters

Some of those pictures are rather old and they've picked deliberately ugly shots for some artists e.g. Adam Ant's is from about 8 years ago (he looks better now) and Pete Burns is way older. You wouldn't pick that PSB shot would you..
