Re: PSB on BBC1 on New Year's Eve

Be great to see Performance on iPlayer. I still have that MM booklet; what strikes me is the quote about either opening a chain of launderettes or becoming like the synth-pop Pink Floyd, which they of course did.

Re: Annually 2022...."time to get ready"

I haven't read it since it first came out (apologies for the pun) - how did Literally describe Peter Andreas?

Re: BBC4 Top of the Pops Repeats

Apparently another presenter is withholding permission for their episodes to be repeated. So over the next year BBC 4 will be skipping 15 episodes. At least 1992 was a quiet year for the boys. Hopefully the episode featuring Disappointed, will be shown. I saw that. I haven't even heard of the muppe...

Re: BBC4 Top of the Pops Repeats

I can only assume that both Was It Worth It? and DJ Culture, plus Discography we're all released just a few months after the end of the Performance tour and they (perhaps Chris more) just wanted a break.. But in hindsight it made no sense whatsoever to do virtually zero promotion. A voice over adve...

Re: BBC4 Top of the Pops Repeats

Rather surprisingly I've continued to enjoy the TOTP repeats even as they have moved into the 1990s. Whereas the 70s and 80s were its heyday, it remains great nostalgia for those of us who were still an impressionable age in the early 1990s. Seeing the crossover rave acts and early eurodance has bee...

Re: Hating PSB

Charlie Gillett managed Kilburn and the High Roads. One could make an argument that West End Girls and Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick are very similar as they are both unusual number one records with distinctive vocals by idiosyncratic frontmen. I can only assume his loathing for PSB was based on the...

I like the Morrissey anecdote - is that true?

Re: Do you think PSB took their aesthetic from The Sparks?

Because synthpop duos are less common than four-piece rock bands it's easier for someone like Wright to claim that Sparks are some kind of Ur-Synthpop Duo and everyone who came after Sparks that had a synthpop hit are indebted to them for their entire career. I think it's Ron that is the most obviou...

Re: BBC4 Top of the Pops Repeats

Our heroes are off conquering the world, so Mark 'Goody Bags' Goodier introduces the video for Jealousy, which is still one of my favourites. I love how Neil's coat lapels perfectly match his newly dyed hair.

Oh really? Need to watch this.

That track listing is bizarre. I'm not a huge fan of the album but at least it makes sense to open with For Your Own Good and Closer to Heaven, then close with Footsteps.

Re: Bilingual - originally planned track list

I don't mind Metamorphosis and I love Electricity. Nightlife was the first album that had tracks I really didn't like. Remember Boy strange? Nightlife is the last PSB album that I experienced without the internet. Truth be told, I bought it out of loyalty more than anything and wasn't even that bot...
