Re: Their saddest songs
Your Funny Uncle", obviously. As Drico said, sadness is what they do. That, and regret. Those few PSB songs where those qualities are missing, are the ones that do not work. "Pop Kids" is an excellent example of a song that is just someone reminiscing about the good old days until the...

Re: Your choices: the debut album that might have been ...
In my opinion, "Please" IS an absolutely stupendous debut and - by some distance - the best debut album of all time (even if I don't consider it the best PSB album). The song writing was top-notch, and the production was fresh and inspired.

Re: Rate
Exactly. People are confusing infectious beat and the fact that it's new with it being a great song. Sure it may make your toes tap and your knees jiggle but so does St. Vitus dance. It doesn't even sound like a PSB song. It sounds the same as everything else does now, a song by someone or other bu...

Re: 38 years ago today
In the days before Grindr, guys hooked up in electronic stores? Crazy times. Cruised, I guess, not hooked up! That'd be wild even for ths 80s. I always thought this story sounded ridiculous but seeing how many times they've told it over the last 30+ years without any details changed it must be true...

Re: Today I listened to Elysium for the first time since 2012...
Elysium is a beautifully produced album desperately looking for a good song. Which is why a lot of people like the instrumentals. There isn't a decent song on it, but Dawson did a dynamite job trying to salvage something.

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective
The album versions "Domino Dancing" and "Left to My Own Devices" in each their fashion are Pet Shop Boys at their majestic, incomparable best. Left to my own devices was probably PSB at the height of their creative power. The magnificent build-up, the meandering lyrics, the thump...

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective
When the album came out, I was finding it difficult to get my head around Always on my mind/IMH. Then in the early 00s, at Kasper Lauest's insistence (does anyone remember him?), I listened to it again and realized that it's a career highlight. THAT moment, when Chris Lowe's definitive mega-riff com...

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective
Had Trevor Horn not made a complete mess out of It's Alright, Introspective would have been a great candidate for best album ever. As it is, it will only rank second for me.

And so? Or this just in case people on this forum do not check the official site? FYI, I don't usually check the official site daily. In fact I sometimes go a week or more without checking the official site. Hard to believe, I know. So I appreciated this posting. Rest assured though, if I did not ....
