Re: First album track = Single / First single?
PSB usually excel at choosing as opening number the track that best represents the soundscape and theme of the whole album. I like it that they don't always use the first single to open the album, as it's pretty much the norm in pop, but they're solid tracks anyway: Two divided by zero, One more ch...

Re: First album track = Single / First single?
Regarding Electric, we come back to the debate about what is a single. According to Smash, Axis wasn't a proper single, in which case Electric is a No/No or a sort-of/sort-of Btw I love posts like this. I have a couple of similar ones up my sleeve Maybe it wasn't the lead single, but it definitely ...

Re: Nonetheless Expanded Edition
Kind of would have wished for an alternate cover to diferentiate it from the main edition. I find it weird that they open the bonus disc with a cover, and that the demos start at track 5. It all feels very un-PSB. Or rather like it was meant to be a 3 discs set (1 original album, 2 demos and 3 bonus...

Re: Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless
Being boring is their defining moment. The single release signaled the end of their imperial phase, kicked them out of the pop world expectations... But it also marked the moment we're they could be taken seriously by most critics. They went from pop kids to legends. Without Being boring and without...

Now Schlager even has an official video with Neil & Chris in it. It just needs a proper cover artwork to count as a (promo) single

Re: New Single 'Feel'
Is this the first time a PSB demo gets a video? And directed by Chris himself! It's simple but you can tell he's having fun. I will say it again: the demo is far superior to the album version. Chris robotic voice singing in German just makes the message clearer, even if I can't understand what he's ...

Re: Pet Shop Boys - Reserve - the b-sides and bonus tracks 1985-2024
Love a b-sides compilation discussion. There’s definitely enough material for a new collection and I think we could realistically see this being the next big Parlophone PSB reissue focus. Rather than revisiting and revising Alternative and Format (after all, we know revisionism isn’t a very PSB thi...

Re: New Single 'Feel'
Loving the demo of Schlager-Hitparade. The vocal effects on Chris' voice reinforce the irony in the lyrics. Neil's version is plain cheesy despite their intentions. Everybody will dance is alright as B-side. Superchumbo adds some epicity and makes the chorus actually work so it's better than your av...

No screams.
PSB version is a demo for Liza's superior version.

They could have been one hit wonders. Instead 40 years into their career they have prestige, critical acclaim and cult status, with successful tours and popular festivals attendance. Every single act that it's topping the charts nowadays would dream to achieve that in 10, 20, 30, 40 years but few (i...

Cute they were included but it's a list with a Shakira cover so I wouldn't take it too seriously...

The lyrics perfectly describe how he prefers posing for the pictures rather than crawling for his own security. It's like Pet Shop Boys were singing about this very same scene. Oddly visionary.

Re: Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless
I actually like the album version. It's fun and joyous. Single version is cute but too short and the 10" feels too pretentious to my ears. As for the "Dictation being forced in Afghanistan" line it sounds of place in Introspective or PSB production up to then but it foreshadowed lyric...
