Re: Neil's regrets/the lost Dusty album

"We ran out of time." I cracked out Results the other day and was astonished again at how much material they produced between Introspective and Very - three studio albums of their own, Results, half of Reputation, half the Cicero album, half a soundtrack album, the Discography singles, a handful of ...

Re: Classic Pop magazine December 2024

I really like Elysium, always have. What I don't like are articles like this one, too much fluff and analysis without actually knowing what they're talking about. Not sure we're reading the same piece - it's almost entirely factual history. I agree with Too Many Shadows that I'd like to have seen ...

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition

Nonetheless (expanded edition) gets a very good review on Pitchfork this morning - they had never reviewed the album when it was released. 8.0 https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/pet-shop-boys-nonetheless-expanded-edition/ This is great! Didn't realise Laura Snapes was writing for Pitchfork now ...

Re: Queer The Music

Neil must’ve told this story a thousand times, but I love when he talks about recording with Dusty and when she first arrived at the studio asked Neil and Chris “How do you want me to sound?” and the boys looked at each other and then responded “like Dusty Springfield!” And she says “oh ok yeah I ca ...

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition

nonetheless is at #6 in the sales chart and #7 in the physical charts, where units ACTUALLY matter. I mean I'd like this to be true because it would favour the specific bands that I like at the expense of hugely more popular ones, but wishing for a chart without streaming today is like wishing for ...

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition

Nonetheless expanded has charted higher than the reissue of How to dismantle an atomic bomb (number 50) - U2, which has had a massive promotional campaign behind it. And about 500 different formats! They've been advertising it on Instagram for weeks. One of the (two) PSB formats was sixty quid as ...

Back in the album chart at 44 - a third week in the top 75 though still only a single week in the top 40. Still, comparable to the re-release of Bilingual in 1997 (charted at 32).

Re: "Covers": a big dilemma for PSB

Of course with ATYD and TDEOTS, Nonetheless had been a better album. I don't think this is obvious at all. Dudes is a good record but it veers a tiny bit close to Winner-esque football singalong territory (it's "anthemic", as I think you would put it, and I don't think that's a flattering sound for ...

Re: Nonetheless - Expanded Edition

Nonetheless down to 24 in the midweeks according to the Music Week sales update posted on the UKmix forum. No figures I can see, but when it was number six on Monday the number five had done just under 3k so I'm guessing it sold 2,500 or so on day 1/through preorders. The obvious difference between ...

Re: Hypothetical Nonetheless Extras album

The B sides and bonus tracks from this era don't really tell a consistent tale, do they - any attempt to construct an album from them is doomed because of the two 1982 re-recordings, which are nice curios but don't really stand up to repeated listening for me. They're not quite Bubadubadubadum but ...

Wish wrote: Sat 23 Nov 2024, 11:31 pm But both lead tracks are on CD1. CD2 only contains remixes.
I'm also confused.
Sure, but the lead tracks of each CD are NLB and ATYD (albeit in its remixed form) respectively. I think they're just using track 1 to define what each CD is, perhaps a little lazily.

Re: What's your opinion about Parlophone's strategy?, do you expect something more?

Schlager also isn't a Christmas song - the line is "it's always Christmas or the sound of summer in the Schlager hit parade", implying that it is in fact neither in the real world (and by the same logic you could say it was a summer song). It also doesn't sound at all festive, and the lyrics are ...

Re: The fifth single

It'll be disc 1 and disc 2 based on their lead tracks - you can't have more than one maxi single contributing to a single chart entry. They've just sourced the wrong images for them.
