Re: Fairlights

This is an excerpt from the Actually interview picture disc (vinyl). The new Fairlight CMI Chris is talking about is the 16-bit series III, which came out in 1986. It’s really the sound of peak imperial phase PSB.

Re: Phil Harding on his PSB remixes

Another fun fact: the ascending/descending bassline during the “In My House” section is more or less a straight lift from part of the bassline of Whitney Houston’s “So Emotional”, a track Chris professes enthusiasm for in the original Annually book. Looking at the timings, Chris would have been list...

Re: Phil Harding on his PSB remixes

So, this is the story of the Introspective version of "Always on My Mind." Interesting that this remix happened so early in the the process of putting Introspective together. He’s talking about the remix, which is sometimes called the Phil Harding mix. It’s just under six minutes long. Th...

Re: Phil Harding on his PSB remixes

An interesting read, thanks for posting. Can you imagine “West End Girls” produced by SAW? It all might have turned out very differently! To my recollection, the Miami synth riff at the start of their remix of “It’s a Sin” is actually the same as the piano riff in the middle of the Disco Mix from th...

Re: I stood at the kitchen sink...

I always assumed it referred to the Soft Cell version given their admiration for Soft Cell and that the Gloria Jones original was an obscure B-side.

It would make a good Annually letters question.

I find it incongruous and inconsistent that a group that don’t wish to be defined or pigeonholed by their sexually should choose to perform with a person who is totally defined by his.

And it was interesting that they played so many tracks from artists they have collaborated with, or have mooted future collaborations with. They need the royalty money. A good chunk of them weren’t their compositions. Well I wasn’t being entirely serious, but did you ever notice how Neil has a habi...

Re: PSB on BBC1 on New Year's Eve

It's an interesting thought, that Discography was too early. When you consider the freshness and vitality of Very, it does seem like a book closing on an era. Have you seen the Farrow/3a cover mock-ups that surfaced recently? I'm interested in how it looked in context at the time as it was a little...

Re: Closer To Heaven OCR - Red Vinyl Reissue

I don't get it. It's the same...except on red vinyl. Coloured vinyl never sounds as good as black vinyl. Are you getting new tracks? A new mix? No. Pointless reissue. I love vinyl but I also see it’s a total hype. The sound quality is inferior to any digital format, especially for tracks that were ...

Re: Forthcoming PSB TV and radio appearances...

Pet Shop Boys Performance is being shown on BBC Four tonight at 21:30, exactly 30 years after it was first broadcast. Unfortunately it’s a 60 minutes edited version.
