And also 'Wiedersehen'.
Both beautifully sad.
Yes, agreed... Those two were on my longer list. The lyrics for I cried for us are pretty cutting.

Their saddest songs

What would you class as their saddest or most moving songs? I appreciate this is subjective but it would be interesting to see if there some common choices. I have always found the chorus of Dreaming of the Queen pretty heartbreaking. The death of love itself, then suddenly made personal: 'There are...

Interesting bits in Annually

I haven’t seen discussion on some of the other cool things flagged in Annually, so thought I’d pull out as a new topic: - There is a potential follow up to Cricket wife - Neil has another poem for Chris to set to music. - The demo cassette which featured Rent and New boy also includes the unreleased...

The Boys need a better proofreader!

Sadly the fan who asked about dreams in the Letters Section of Annually 2021(Literally 47) has had their name missed out and the space has been left out after the previous question. As the asker of the previous question, I noticed this too. A very good question Dog. or can I call you Chris!? Of cou...

Re: "Cricket Wife" initial commentary

I agree. The vocals and music seem overly detached. It definitely embodies the pandemic - the product of two isolated people attempting to collaborate. The musical equivalent of shouting “you’re on mute” for 12 months. I thought they both lived alone, so could easily be in each other's 'bubble' to ...

*SPOILER ALERT....!* What happened to the "bumper edition of fan letters..?" I totally appreciate that the last year has been thin on the ground with PSB activity for obvious reasons, so from the initial message from Becker Brown I was expecting a compromise edition that concentrated on f...

I’ve read the whole thing and it’s a great edition. Loads of new stuff in the 1986 feature. Amazing how non-stop that period was. Please, Disco, Television, four singles, multiple worldwide promotional trips, planned and aborted tour, demoing Actually, recording with Dusty. Amazing stuff.

First time I’ve had a question printed. Mine’s the one that references The Samurai in autumn. I’d forgotten I’d even sent one in (late night, drunk), so it was quite a thrill.

Re: "Cricket Wife" initial commentary

As for this track… I like the music, and the vocals, but they don’t quite sit together for me yet. The vocals are far too prominent and “on top of” the music for me… too loud and push the music into “background” status, when it would be more interesting (to me) for it to be the focus. I agree. The ...

Memory of the future is another example of where Neil plays with time in a similar way.
