The Catalogue Interviews - put your questions to Harold Faltermeyer!

In the third in a series of Catalogue Interviews exclusive to this forum, legendary producer and composer Harold Faltermeyer has kindly agreed to answer our questions. With the album Behaviour regarded by many as their finest work, Harold’s position as co-producer firmly assures his place in Pet Sho...

Re: Pet shop boys - Literally Book

I don’t think the second edition contained any different or extra text. It was simply republished in paperback.

Re: The Loving Kind

The Loving Kind is such a great piece of insistent bubblegum pop. If this was what they came up with prior to working with Xenomania, then it seems that Neil and Chris pretty much devised the entire track themselves. For some reason, I had the impression that Xenomania wrote significant parts of th...

Re: 'Yes' and 'Elysium', will be released on Oct 20th, 2017

Neil has said they only include those mixes they were involved in; they had a hand in the Beatmasters single mix of I Wouldn't Normally Do..., but no involvement in the Seriously mixes. They weren't quite satisfied with the BIR single mix and added overdubs to the master and the "You gotta have fun...

Re: 'Yes' and 'Elysium', will be released on Oct 20th, 2017

I agree. The single remix of "Seriously" is fantastic. However, to the best of my knowledge that single mix (and the longer remix) is almost all "Brothers in Rhythm". Although considering the fact that BIR, I believe, mixed "Go West" (for Very and the single). Likewise, J&S for "Yesterday, when I w...

Re: 'Yes' and 'Elysium', will be released on Oct 20th, 2017

So do I. How can you expect to be taken seriously is fantastic - in both forms. I always much preferred the single version, and it's one of their most dramatic remixes, but I love the album version too these days. It's FAR superior to Ego Music - although that is good as instrumental. I agree. The ...

Re: 'Yes' and 'Elysium', will be released on Oct 20th, 2017

I was expecting the Yes instrumental versions that came with the vinyl box set. As someone else said, I hope yes sounds much better/less loud. They said at the time of release of the first reissues that they only include tracks which features new music, which immediately discounts all instrumentals.

Re: 'Yes' and 'Elysium', will be released on Oct 20th, 2017

Never heard of She Pops (Demo) - any info on this? Literally issue 39. Diary February 25. Stuart work on "She pops". Neil: As in body-popping. It sounds a bit like a Korean or Japanese pop song. I don't know if he made mention of it again elsewhere. I fully expect "She pops" to be the only ...

Was Elysium originally ever released as a single LP, or just a double, along with the instrumentals?

The track's been around a while, hasn't it? It's dated 2014 in my library.

Re: 'Yes' and 'Elysium', will be released on Oct 20th, 2017

It's a nice and collectible set of items, but disappointed regarding expectations... as usual. I have to accept the fact they are not keen on unveiling their vaults. Eh. I think it's fair enough if they don't regard the majority of their demos as being finished or of sufficient quality to release. ...

Isn't it pretty much just an edit of the album version with no new or different parts? That's probably the reason.

He plays The Message, Passion by the flirts and Spacelab by Kraftwerk. No news other than live dates and states he can't be bothered writing his memoirs though he's been asked. One day
Did he mention any new live dates?
No.
