“I’m listening to the words I thought I’d never hear again
A litany of saints and other ordinary men
Kneeling on the parquet
Whatever has gone wrong?
The fear and feeling hopelessness
I don’t want to belong”

Re: New album Nonetheless
Just had a notification to say that the copy from HMV (ordered on the back of the Guardian event) has just been delivered to my address (East Yorkshire). Can’t wait to get home now and have a listen again - had the songs stuck in my head since Monday!

Re: An evening with the Pet Shop Boys and album preview
Tonight was fab. The Schlager Hit parade shimmers along in sultry fashion. A New Bohemia is, to me, Beatles-esque and very melodic. Bullet for Narcissus is a humorous anger-banger, and The Secret of Happiness is a lounge full of strings.

Re: At home with the Pet Shop Boys
I seem to remember Neil once saying in an interview that he wasn’t happy with how Steve Wright first introduced them on Top of the Pops (for West End Girls). I think it was a comment along the lines of “An unusual song from an unusual band”.

Re: Dreamworld: Spoilers
The atmosphere at last night’s Hull gig was incredible. Having seen the boys in Manchester and London a couple of weeks ago, it was great to see them in my home city. The Hull crowd didn’t disappoint and certainly gave the audiences at the bigger gigs a run for their money!

Re: Do you think PSB took their aesthetic from The Sparks?
Not sure if this has been mentioned already, so apologies if it has, but there’s an interesting comment from Neil RE: Sparks in The Word’s ‘Word in your Ear’ podcast, episode 170, from 2011.
Long story short, Sparks had given an interview in Q Magazine where they’d basically said “There are ...

Not YouTube, but a Twitter video... PSB songs ringing out across Hull from the bells of the city’s Minster.

The bells are being triggered wirelessly from a MIDI Keyboard.

He came too quickly...! 😁
He forgot to play the keyboard intro and started singing instead. He realised the mistake when the music cut to the drum breakdown before the verse should have started. He covered it well though with a comment about it being ...

Re: The first song
The first four chords (A minor , F Major, G Major and E7), when repeated in that order, are the same chord progression as the verses of Rent. The E7 is fairly unique in this case because following that standard progression you would normally expect the E chord to be an E minor.
