After 35 years? I remember them having a nr. 1 single in 1988.

This doesn't count though as a real number one these days because it's only physical, right? So not quite "again".

They've got to number 1 quite a few times in the PHYSICAL sales charts since 2009 (counting vinyl and CD sales only):
Did you see me coming?
Leaving
Thursday
Twenty-something
Say it to me
Dreamland
Monkey business
Recently they've also made it into the Top 10 in the SALES charts (this chart includes everything except streaming)
Dreamland - number 4
Monkey business - number 6
In terms of the OFFICIAL chart (counting everything, including streaming) they haven't been in the top 100 since Thursday reached number 61.

Re: Nr 1 single again, after 35 years
I think the fact that the Boys themselves celebrate online that they made #1 on the physical charts shows that it means something to them.
To me it also shows that they DO still have the clout to have a "hit" single, and were the times a little different, we'd undoubtedly be enjoying them playing "Monkey Business" as the #1 single on TOTP on a Thursday night.
I think we are also lucky that the Boys thrived during a time that allowed them to create a fan base built on those old physical formats and that has subsequently kept them active now that the music buying landscape is so dramatically different. Lets see how many bands starting out in this new digital world are still around 35 years from now (although I'll probably be too dead to find out by then).

They have had several number ones in the physical sales chart in recent years. Dreamland, Say it to me, Twenty-something and The Pop Kids to name a few hit the top.
I'm a proud sycophant because I like Wedding in Berlin

PSB - kings of the physical charts!
I was born in a hospital room with green walls, the doctor who delivered me wore a green overall, so did the nurses hovering around. So much greenery around, its no wonder that it is my favourite colour !

How many physical singles do you have to sell nowadays to be number one?
Re: Nr 1 single again, after 35 years
Good question @TallThinMan,because,for example,if Nr.1 have 1000 units sold,how many have Nr.100? 10 units?

The number does not matter so long as you sell more than anybody else.TallThinMan wrote: ↑Wed 19 Feb 2020, 10:16 am How many physical singles do you have to sell nowadays to be number one?

Being #1 in "sales" charts has no importance at all, you must be #1 in the official charts

It might do financially for the new breed of artists. A million streams on Spotify only nets you around £3000 - £4000.
Sell 8000 physicals in one week and I'm guessing you'll get more
