Electric, new single, first tour date, etc

#1 Post by vincenzosz » Thu 28 Mar 2013, 5:31 am

So as part of my Electric anticipation I'm really wanting to know when exactly in June the new album is coming out. Judging by the fact that the first full fledged Electric performance is in Russia on June 3rd, I think (hoping) we can expect Electric to be released earlier in the month (perhaps the 3rd or the 10th). Because I can't see them wanting to play all these dates (and new songs) without the album being out yet.

Which means that the new single should be out at the end of April, with an announcement in the next week or two.

This may all be trivial, but I need to express some of my excitement. >_<

I'm guessing that we're dealing with a whole new paradigm in the post EMI era.
Where compression is King.
The 1st single - May 20.
The album - June 10.
I like it here ~~ wherever it is ...

They begin in Saint Petersburg again, that's cool.

There might not even be a single. It's a new era. Perhaps now marketed as an albums band. If we get an album every 18 months, for example, who needs singles!

And then... no b-sides?!

Maybe they'll go the EP route after this? Might allow them to be more experimental...

I'm guessing they don't have a fixed deal with Kobalt in terms of number of albums

I agree we'll be dealing with a whole new paradigm, although we don't know what shape that will take yet. I can't believe they'll abandon the single format entirely as they like recording/releasing b-sides and they don't cost much to produce, although as chart positions no longer matter PSB singles may now take a different form such as EPs or mini-albums. I don't think they care much for producing videos so they may abandon those. I think they're painfully aware they're selling strictly to the fanbase and not bringing in new people so expect their major albums and tours to be the only products aimed at the mass market and any other releases to be website only.

Hmmm, I suppose anything is a possibility. But I don't see why they would change their tradition of releasing a single EP shortly before the album.

I certainly hope they don't abandon this. Exactly Corina! B-sides!!!!

They like making them, we like hearing them! Why ruin a good thing? The lack of video isn't a big loss for me. It's the music I care about.

I think now we're used to the concept of lack of video. The PSB video has been downsizing since Fundamental. Spending less and less airtime on music videos to eventually not having one made at all. Gradual withdrawal, and I haven't been a fan of ANY of their videos post-PopArt, so I've come to expect no videos anymore.

I'm not fazed by the lack of videos. It's never going to be like the earlier days again. Just keep making the music!

I really don't care if they never make another promo video again, it's a dead format for groups of a certain age. I do care that they channel funds into physical singles/EPs however as that is a fundamental part of being a PSB fan - the delight around a world hidden to the general public, the bonus track. The sheer quality over the years is legendary.
