It was seriously mooted as a collaboration with Take That. At the time, it would almost certainly have been their fifth number one. Chris, I believe, vetoed the idea.

Looks like another cheap, crap paper sleeve like the "Inner Sanctum" release. The pockets on that one were so tight one had to scratch the discs to remove them. I don't understand why they no longer house discs in proper plastic cases.

I pretty much doubt that the paper packaging is cheap. It had to be specifically designed and produced — unlike that ubiquitous plastic box which is readily available. I'm virtually certain that using the latter would have actually been cheaper.

I also disagree that it is crap. It is lovely and outstanding. It makes the product look special. Very glad they bothered to make it. Wish that Performance, A life in pop and PopArt were taken care of in a similar way.

As for tight pockets — no problem at all as I literally take the discs out just once — to create digital copies.

Exactly. Copies that can be played just by way of a few clicks rather than scratching the physical disc.

I don't understand the need for a physical product if you don't play the discs that come with it. If it remains on the shelf and you only play the digital copy you have made from it, then why not purchasing directly the digital files online and be environmentally responsible not asking for extra cardboard and plastic ?
I guess you could answer: the video files are not going to be available online for this release. OK, but generally speaking, what is the point ?
But I guess I am not fan enough as I don't understand either the need to keep an item sealed in shrinkwrap that you never play.
Speaking for myself, I buy (almost) every PSB release and always play the discs directly. The discs get scratched and damaged each time I remove them from the sleeve ? It's a design issue that should be fixed. And fans should complain and ask for something durable.

I think the culture of digital releases has not yet progressed to the point where I would buy them instead of physical ones.
The main issue is that you don't get the full booklet. Just the sleeve image in JPEG which normally does not even include the full credits.

If they were selling digital stuff including the full booklets in high resolution then I would indeed have no reason to buy physical. But this is not happening yet even with music (which, apart from that, is also rather tricky to find/buy in lossless) — I don't even know if anyone sells video files for download as opposed to streaming.
