It was fun to read Effen Vida's review, but I get an impression that the more time passes, the less commonsense are the commentaries.

Some people have already decided how to treat "Wedding in Berlin", another group is begging Effen Vida's to write something positive about this track because this the only chance they can accept this song. This is so strange to read this. Just believe in yourself, your own judgement and taste ;)

...or I was just trigered to write this, because of another genius post by nickname.

I'm not overly optimistic about a song only becoming tolerable after multiple listens. I'm sure if I heard any of the aural graffiti in the charts now I'd almost find it tolerable after several plays. More a sign of familiarity than anything else. Given that we all know Bernard the Heathen now I feel that the end of the album will be a bit of a downer.

Mine is only one opinion, though. Neil and Chris clearly love it, so that’s got to give you some confidence that I might be an idiot.

More likely them. They brought us The night I fell in love and Winner!

“Bernard the Heathen” lol, interesting predictive text there...like it knew there was someone called Bernard involved with the track!

Nothing new. At this point I'm content with Effen Vida's overview, so I haven't asked.

Retro. :)

it brings to mind very early B sides like 'A man could get arrested' or 'That's my impression' ...
For at least a couple of the songs on Hotspot, the songs you mention above are a perfect reference point for what I meant by ‘dirty’

Here's a list from Wikipedia of some of the albums that have been recorded at the same studio:
[...]
1986 – Black Celebration by Depeche Mode
[...]
I may be wrong but I believe Depeche Mode's so-called Berlin trilogy were all recorded at Hansa..?
Construction Time Again and Some Great Reward were mostly recorded in London, then finished/mixed in Berlin. Black Celebration was the only one they started and finished in Berlin

I would like to get to know the second opinion as well - i have never enoguh :) Especially that your source seems to have more bittersweet conclusion after listening to the album. It would be good to read something less euphoric.

Effen, would you like to rank the songs from the album (from the worst to the best), explaining why?.

It could be fun for us, just to make the waiting a bit easier. Maybe you could have a bit of time this weekend for that. After having listened them so many times. :D

How does it make the waiting a bit easier?

But OK, I will do it for you anyway:

1. Hoping for a Miracle
2. Monkey Bussiness
3. Happy People
4. Burning the Heather
5. You Are the One
6. Will-o-the-Wisp
7. I Don't Wanna
8. Dreamland
9. Wedding in Berlin
10. Only the Dark
