The irony of Agenda

#1 Post by Patrick Bateman » Sun 10 Feb 2019, 9:14 pm

If Neil had posted about these issues on here, they'd have been moved to the part of the forum where snowflakes daren't venture. :shhh:

I’m not sure that being “anti-Trump” makes anyone a “snowflake”.
More strobes and BANGING, please!

"Snowflake " is the new go-to slur to attack anyone with a conscience or who dares criticise the line of least resistance. Its use is so open ended too with a wide range of potential targets which is handy for the restricted IQs of those who use it. The slur is fired off quicker than a morning Trump tweet like a bazooka at a dartboard and two braincells is the usual minimal requirement for the firing mechanism.

Because language is protean, it’s always fascinating to see how new word meanings evolve.

I actually think that ‘snowflake’ is a perfect word to describe a certain sensibility. How typical of snowflakes to object to such a term!

Snowflake can be used both ways. It’s not the alleged snowflakes that are getting offended at Neil’s comments. It’s the other side, which makes them snowflakes too.

Also you get the British Army using the term in a recent recruitment campaign to recruit millennials. You’re implying that snowflakes are those who take exception to racism, homophobia, and what I find hilariously ironic, transphobia. Look at Trump banning trans people from the US army. You know they could be considered snowflakes. You can see Trump turning up his nose at the British Army campaign saying “I don’t want snowflakes in my army”.
This is a song about boys and girls. You hear it playing all over the world.

What could be more snowflake than creating a thread to whine about the fact that Neil has a platform other than one's Internet safe space? Irony indeed.

At the end of the day I am an independent centrist. While I do usually vote democrat, there are ideas on the right that I ascribe to. Some of the actions on the far left are repugnant to me. I'm not for "safe spaces" in college and such. Yet from this centrist position, I have been called sheeple and snowflake too many times to count. Pretty lame, just like the opening post of this thread.

Good posts both David and Ziggy.

No, that’s not what I was saying at all.

Greetings,

Unfortunately the meaning of "snowflake" has drifted too far...

Wikipedia captures its proper use well...

"The term snowflake has been used to refer to children raised by their parents in ways that give them an inflated sense of their own uniqueness. This usage of snowflake has been attributed to Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel Fight Club, and its 1999 film adaptation. Both the novel and the film include the line "You are not special. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake."

Therefore, its proper usage relates to people who insist that their own identity/demographic deserves special attention and special privilege. For example, rather than just saying something generic and universal like "it's good to treat all people fairly", a special snowflake will insist that their own identity group (e.g. Black Zen lesbians from Zimbabwe) or those with whom they are allied, need to have their profile raised, and that people need to be "educated" on their specific plight, in order to prevent "erasure" of their ever so important "lived experiences".

This leads to a phenomenon known as the Oppression Olympics - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oppression_Olympics

A quick test to see if someone is a snowflake is to see how they respond to obvious, common-sense statements like "All Lives Matter", or "It's Okay To Be White". If they are triggered by these statements, they are a snowflake.

Retro.

We were taught in secondary school that "you can do and be anything you want" and that "you are special, there is not one else just like you". Load of crock.

Trump and the MAGA crowd are the biggest snowflakes of them all.
