easier on the eyes...new CD tie in

#1 Post by glennjridge » Sun 24 Jun 2012, 2:34 am

I was thinking as I sit here in the darkness of the room my girlfriend has designated as my area.
no lights on in the room but I'm bathed in a blast of white light given off by the forum white light blueish background.it can be kinda hard on the eyes in the dark.

I was thinking, not that its really an issue, but a while ago youtube had a little feature called lights off where you flipped a switch and the background reversed, so the background was black.it was a big hit, it seemed much easier on the eyes when its late and you are looking at the forum in a darkened room.

maybe next time around make the background black and maybe with burgandy redish text.
anyways just a thought.

check ya later

Know what you mean Glenn!
The problem is, that this forum has many "plugins" (Phoogle, News, Pic-Resize, Chat, etc) and it's difficult to place a new style (dark) in here. It would be a hell of working in all the plugins in the new style.
I'm currently on it to uninstall several plugins (Phoogle, Chat), because they aren't really needed anymore. When this work is done, I will try to get an overview, what still is left and has to be included in any other new style.

I would greatly appreciate a dark theme myself for accessibility reasons, I have an eye condition that makes bright background / dark text combination practically unreadable for me. If you are using Firefox I strongly recommend the NoSquint add-on, it can override a website's colour profile on per-site basis. The drawback is however that it doesn't exactly make 5things pretty to look at, and it doesn't always work correctly or override all elements, so a specially designed dark theme/template is always preferable.

Hi Glen (and the other who had the same wish),

dark theme is now ready for all. Just change the board style in your user control panel (under board pereferences) from fundamental2 to "darkshines3"...

Hope this will help you a lot!!!

Yes, thank you very much! This is much better than browser colour overrides.
