Olympic performance = A good improvement on "Elysium" sales?

#1 Post by Nickname »

Do you think the Olympic performance can make a really good influence on "Elysium" sales around the world?.

Note: Assuming they are going to play only "Westend Girls".

lol it will depend on what they play but i doubt it will increase it by much. The songs are quickly forgotten once the next act comes on.

If anything benefits, it will be West End Girls. As everything is a single these days, that could get a boost (assuming that is what they play). I don't think the albums will get a noticeable boost, but some of the compilations might sell a few more copies. Still, if a who's who of British pop must take centre stage at the closing ceremony, I see no reason why Neil and Chris shouldn't be there.

I think Winner rather than Elysium will get a boost. That's assuming they play that, as well as a classic.

I'm guessing Go West, as we've already had West End Girls. You could imagine the crowd singing along with that.

Well, West End girls and Discography got a boost after the opening ceremoney, so I guess it will get a boost.

There will be a sales blip or a spike or whatever the terminology is.

It could have positive effect. Reminding people that PSB is still alive and making music. I still think people consider them to be retired already.

Are they still interested in record sales, or gaining new fans? I suppose neither doesn't hurt anything. I would rather they are making music for anyone that might care to enjoy it and gaining sales/new fans, in addition to the established core, is a bonus?

We swore we would try not to blog on PSBs for a bit but we succumbed - we've done our fantasy closing ceremony with the pet shop boys (and Kate bush, morrissey, Lennox, massive attack and loads more) at www.poplifer.com. We really want other people's ideas so do pop by and tell us we are wrong wrong wrong!

Do you really think N & C were able to decide which song to play? The closing ceremony is a very expensive and a carefully orchestrated event so I'm sure they were invited there to play West End girls and nothing else. According to rumours, Kate Bush will be performing live there for the first time in over 20 years -- and even she is singing Running Up That Hill, a song as old as West End girls.

Unlike West End Girls, Running Up That Hill does seem to fit in with the Olympic theme. I don't see how West End Girls fits. There's only two songs I think fits and that's Winner and All Over The World.
