Yesterday, when I was mad

#1 Post by mole973102 »

Pet Shop Boys - Yesterday, when I was mad
01. Yesterday, when I was mad (7 inch mix) (4:04)
02. Yesterday, when I was mad (Jam & Spoon mix) (9:24)
03. Yesterday, when I was mad (Coconut 1 12 inch mix) (6:26)
04. Yesterday, when I was mad (Coconut 1 remix) (4:09)
05. Yesterday, when I was mad (Raf Zone mix) (6:43)
06. Yesterday, when I was mad (Raf Zone dub) (5:41)
07. Yesterday, when I was mad (Junior Vasquez Fabulous dub) (9:22)
08. Yesterday, when I was mad (Junior Vasquez Factory dub) (8:22)
09. If love were all (3:03)
10. Some speculation (6:37)
11. Euroboy (4:32)
12. Can you forgive her? (Swing version) (4:55)

I find myself playing this single a lot recently. Probably because my cat had to be put down last week. I really like how the 'put downs' have been woven into the lyrics. I bet Neil was mad. Can someone remind me which concert this was based on?

One of their best singles I think. Very catchy...

Quite like these two mixes in particular...
Yesterday, when I was mad (Raf Zone mix) (6:43)
Yesterday, when I was mad (Coconut 1 12 inch mix) (6:26)

During and after their "Performance" tour, Neil and Chris were sometimes more than a little upset by the critical reaction to their elaborate stage show, including comments by personal acquaintances. The lyrics of this song consist of a virtual catalogue of bitchy statements, ranging from faint praise and backhanded compliments ("You have a certain quality which really is unique") to downright cruelty ("You've both made such a little go a very long way"). We can only hope that they got most of their anger out of their system with this bit of retaliation.

I like the song a lot and assume it has some remixes really worth listening to (and that remix of "Can You Forgive Her" is interesting). I might track this one down even though I don't own other maxi singles.

The Album version is unlistenable.
The Single is version is AWESOME.
Neil Tennant has a great voice, Chris Lowe has great silence.

I actually quite admire the writing of this one, coupled with an excellent beat...
Been listening to it a lot lately. I could see why it pissed Neil and Chris off.

and someone said: 'It's fabulous you're still around today
You've both made such a little go a very long way'
So rude really.

I really enjoyed Performance. It was the first one for me and I have the DVD.
You gotta have fun!

"Of course it's all on tape, but no one will find out" was another good bitchy comment that was made to them.

Funny to think that whoever said "It's fabulous you're still around today" said it - what - about 18 years ago..?? Little did they know! :)
