Long Time Lurker Decides It's Time

#1 Post by York Minster » Mon 25 May 2009, 5:28 pm

Hi all! I've been lurking on here for a long while, and have been doing so much reading on the board since the beginning of the "Yes era" that I decided it was time to stop being so diffident and start posting. I remember hearing the classic singles here in America in the late 80's when I was around 5-7 years old (I'm 27 now). My brother was a fan (as well of other synthpop of the time) and I dug out tapes of Please and Actually from his drawers in 1997 when I was in high school as well as Alternative Disc One, all of which he left in there when he went to college. I was hooked and started buying not only PSB, but other bands CDs such as Swing Out Sister, ELO, and to many others to name. By the time Closer to Heaven came out I had come to the realization that the boys music is the most listenable of any of the groups I was into; I just never got tired of it. Also, the PSB philosophy interests me, whereas, say, Erasure make great pop tunes, but you can't really delve into much meaning in them, and interviews with Andy and Vince don't reveal much about the songs. Since that time I listen to the PSB almost every day, literally, and their music is a solid part of my world view. Where I live this is looked on as a bit unusual (I'm 90 miles outside of Chicago), because as everyone knows the boys are a cult act in the US. But I don't fit into the mainstream in almost any way anyway, so it works for me. My favorite Pet Shop Boys work is Please, and I have a hard time believing how many on this forum there are that don't like Legacy! But I'll save my other thoughts for regular posts. Just wanted to say hi!

Same here.

Looking forward to your insight on Legacy. Welcome to the Community! 8)
And everything about tonight feels right and so young
And anything I'd want to say out loud will be sung
It's in the music...
