Re: Closer To Heaven items on auction for Stonewall
Thank you for the updates!
For the record, I thought you were a brilliant lead and the live album is terrific (sad I was too young to experience it in person), and I'm also glad the musical managed to gain a somewhat cult status since then, despite the shit reviews.

And any other original cast members!tottenhammattspurs wrote: ↑Fri 06 Nov 2020, 5:31 pm I wonder if "Jonathan Pie" still has any production CDs like this?
As I understand, some of them did let those CDs out in the wild 18-20 years ago, but I reckon some must still be locked in, like these ones have been. Perhaps they might crop up soon too, being inspired by how this auction does

Anyway, I am pretty sure that Stonewall will not be disappointed with what this auction yields. Like any serious bidder, it would not be in my best interest to reveal how much I am prepared to pay. What I can tell is, if I do not win, whoever does will have to pay more than that!

That said, if anyone wants to hear those tracks but does not necessarily need the CDs themselves, I welcome you to join my effort to win them — please contact.

Excuse me Paul, I see the disc is dated 13 June 2001. The show premiered on 15 May 2001. What was the need to make "a quick guide track" for you when the show had already been running?paullyk wrote: ↑Thu 05 Nov 2020, 10:54 am I think the cd that's probably the most interesting for collectors is the 'For All Of Us' one - I remember being at the studio and hearing the track for the first time and being a bit thrown that it was a really different dynamic to the version in the show. Neil was lovely and offered to record a quick guide track for me there and then. Within 10 minutes I had the cd in my hand. It's a complete one off. His vocal is amazing and pure.
Ahh... Nevermind. I see it was for the cast album!

Re: Closer To Heaven items on auction for Stonewall
We were making the album all the way through the west end run - it took months! The album didn't get released till towards the end of the run, I think it was the very last week of performances. Usually a cast album is made in a few days and comes out around the time of show opening or shortly after.
The version of 'For All Of Us' in the show had different lyrics and a much more simple arrangement, so the guide track was given to me in one of our recording sessions, so I could learn the alternative version, before I went back and recorded that track at a later date - whilst still doing the 'show' version each night at the theatre.
Hope that rambling makes sense

So they went for far less than I was prepared to pay privately. Ah well. I wasn’t available for the end of the auction so they were never going to be mine. Great addition to someone’s collection. I hope it’s someone here. It’s great that things like this find their way into fan’s hands after all these years. I have a lot of great unreleased stuff that won’t be publicly shared. At least when it’s an eBay auction, it’s considered out in the wild.

You could just enter your maximum bid in advance at any time. eBay would not allocate it all unless someone else bids above it.df118junkie wrote: ↑Sat 14 Nov 2020, 10:18 pm So they went for far less than I was prepared to pay privately. I know, but it would have pushed the cost up considerably. There’s only 5 tracks I’m interested in. Congratulations.Greendrake wrote: ↑Sat 14 Nov 2020, 11:25 pmYou could just enter your maximum bid in advance at any time. eBay would not allocate it all unless someone else bids above it.df118junkie wrote: ↑Sat 14 Nov 2020, 10:18 pm So they went for far less than I was prepared to pay privately.
