#PSBWatch Opportunities in US TV commerical

#1 Post by themgnt »

Did anyone in the US see the post Super Bowl commercial for Allstate Insurance? It features Opportunities! Not sure if this was it's premiere or if it's been on for a while now but it took me by surprise! I don't see it online yet but I assume it will hit their YouTube channel soon.

In the 30 second spot, a guy is driving through the desert in a convertible with Opportunities blasting on the radio. He starts singing along, then his hood ornament animates and starts singing along as well.

EDIT: It's on the company's official YouTube page now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbQBBWGGX9Y

My son mentioned it to me, I was in the kitchen making a sandwich so missed it, I tried searching for it online and haven't been able to find it.

Just Found it on youtube, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c3KOFB ... e=youtu.be

How much would PSB receive from something like this, any ideas? Did a quick search and found this in relation to music used in movies and commercials. Not sure if this SuperBowl commercial will play regularly or is just a one-off.

Low-end TV usage (e.g. -- music is playing from a jukebox in a scene, but no one in the scene is paying any attention to the music) -- free (for exposure) to $2,000 for a 5-year license. In a film, the fee would be $10,000 in perpetuity.
A more popular song is worth more, perhaps $3,000 for TV and $25,000 for film.
A song used as the theme song for a film might get $50,000 to $75,000.
Commercials fetch even more money: "a song can command anywhere from $25,000 to $500,000 plus per year. The typical range for a well-known song is $75,000 to $200,000 for a one year national usage in the United States, on television and radio."

Its a national commercial shown throughout the U.S. not just regional so should be on the higher spectrum.

Some of these Superbowl commercials continue well after the game but these insurance companies keep coming up with constant new commercials.

Aren't the boys represented by CAA (Creative Artist Agency)?

Looks like it was filmed in the California Desert outside Los Angeles Driving towards Las Vegas or so.

Blimey this seems like a big thing.

The song pretty much is the advert - someone had to animate the bonnet ornament. That cost a bit which means there was probably budgeting for the licensing too.

The song sounds great - its one of those that I often forget and overlook.

Well, the song talked about money. The advert tried to give the idea of how fabulous is being rich and have a good car. So the song worked fine for it. Remember this song was quite known in US. It was a Top 10 song by the way. It appeared also in one episode of The Simpsons (like West End Girls did).

I don't know if I'd go that far. :) The ad is about how the driver saved $700 by switching insurance companies, which allows him to afford the car. He's taking advantage of an 'opportunity' to save money. I wouldn't say it's about being rich, just about being smarter with your money.

Anyway, I see Allstate has posted the commercial to their official YT page now. I've updated my post above.

Blimey, between this and birthing the titular name of Channel 4's most successful streaming drama series ever, the profile is high and the time ripe for a Greatest Hits world tour!! (One day...)

Think I prefer this ad over the original advert. The logo on the bonnet of the car bursting into song, what more could you want ?!

The song is a great fit!

It plays to people's vanity, giving the sense that the guys' got the brains (therefore you're a smarter person for going with Allstate) and the car's got the looks (money saved equals sweet ride!)...and they just "saved" lots of money.

Kerching! Advertising gold!

That's pretty neat to be playing in the middle of the Super Bowl.

Whoever decided to use Opportunities in this must have been a PSB fan or, at least, admirer. Can't see it happening otherwise — using a no. 10 single from 1986, sounding however much relevant.

It's a pity because we are seeing old PSB classics come back in press and TV shows but it doesn't have any effect (or very short) about downloads.

Always on my mind being BBC's best ever version of all time, WG being best song from 1985 to 1995 in the Ivor Novello Awards and best Number 1 of all time according to The Guardian, It's a Sin like the soundtrack and giving the title to a famous series on Channel 4 and things like that.

We remember PSB a lot but we are not going to download any of their classics. No effect.

Opportunities has an increase in the iTunes chart, nothing like The Weekend though who is on top globally.
