Been watching some old Lily Savage stuff after reading one of Paul O'Grady's books and I came across this super obscure song he released as Lily in 1988 called 'Tough at the Top'
It sounds pretty much like a rip-off of Pet Shop Boys version of Always on my Mind. Then from about 2:20 it sounds exactly like the bridge in It's a Sin.
Has anyone ever heard of this. What do you make of it?

An Ian Levine production with a generic backing track. Lily flogged this to death at the Vauxhall Tavern back in the day. I have the 7" and 12".

Yes, the rip-offs are blatant - of both Always On My Mind and It's A Sin.
Reminds me a bit of the Pound Shop Boys.

I actually liked that! Got me tapping my toes!
More strobes and BANGING, please!

Not really a good idea was it?
Not a born singer that one, scouse drawl over a synthetic drumbeat - not a good combination.

Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning.
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

Isn't it more of a pastiche or parody rather than a rip-off? They're deliberately creating something that sounds like gay 80s pop music.
Working the wheel. One eye alert and one asleep.

Ok...this has become a guilty pleasure! I’ve had the 12” banging out in my car on repeat whilst running errands for people (it’s on Spotify!).
You can imagine a smoke filled club in S.London at 1am on a rainy Friday night...O’Grady strutting his stuff to throngs of people absolutely loving life!
“Don’t give up the day job” I hear. Well, it was his “day job” and he was obviously pretty good at it!
