Cricket wife
Next week we will be announcing full details of Annually 2021, the latest edition of the hardback book which PSB publish every year. Annually will be accompanied by a two-track CD single featuring a dramatic new song, almost ten minutes long, entitled “Cricket wife”, plus the lockdown version of “West End girls” which PSB debuted online in June last year. “Cricket wife” uses mainly orchestral sounds and was written as a classical-style instrumental piece by Chris over which Neil sang lyrics taken from a poem he had written. Both Chris and Neil recorded their parts at their homes and Pete Gleadall mixed the final track. Artwork is by Farrow.

Looking forward to it, both the full announcement next week and the CD release of this new track.
(CD release of the Lockdown mix of West End girls is nice too)
I like that they're still working with Mark Farrow and Pete Gleadall. No reason not to.

Has to be one of the longest Pet Shop Boys songs if you don't count remixes.
Close to 10 minutes. Maybe the length is the reason it doesn't suit any other type of release.

As a rabid PSB AND Cricket fan, this is an amazing cosmic alignment for me, though I suspect the song might have little to do with cricket, or, indeed, with what goes on behind the cricket pavilion....

The title doesn’t feel too far removed from this, which I posted last June:

“I think next we’ll get PSB’s “England” album... a counterpoint to Hotspot... More Bernard Butler, maybe co-producing alongside them; Tracey Thorn on a few tracks. Inspired by country walks and musings on identity. I’d be well up for that.”
