I had WDWLT? on a Sarm West demo cassette years ago. It had about 20 different excerpts, stems and variants on it. Slightly different dubs and mix. Its probably originated from that. It certainly sounds "legit" though

Exactly this. I still have a copy of the same cassette. There's a lot of blank space between the excerpts. I copied it all up to my reel-to-reel about 30 years ago (how times change, you'd use Audacity now), spliced the tape multiple times to remove the blanks and came up with something not that dissimilar and which flowed pretty well.
