Unity Tour would be starting tomorrow in Toronto

#1 Post by Gabby »

Tomorrow would have been the first date on the PSB/NO Unity Tour.

I had (still have for the rescheduled dates) tickets for Toronto's Budweiser Stage.

Feeling kind of bummed about it today, but hoping that there's something new on the horizon from New Order (their mysterious Facebook post stating 8th Sept 2020 is a teaser for something), and might be nice if our Boys can release something before Christmas to tide us over and keep us out of the doldrums.

For anyone else feeling down about it right now, sending my love and support and hope all is good for 2021!

Thank you Gabby. I feel your sadness as Pet Shop Boys were supposed to perform in Warsaw, in May. I did have tickets in hand and I was excited beyond measure. Had to do some overtime to afford them but I felt it worth every penny. Then the pandemic hit. I was looking online for more information, potential rescheduling or something but so far I came empty handed. It is not about the money but about the feeling, emotions and breathtaking experience I was looking for. I hope it is still ahead of me.
Lots of support for you Gabby as well!
Thank you for help with website planning my Aussie friends!

FYI New Order single 'Be a rebel' gets it's world premiere on The Zoe Ball Show on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday morning, 8th September!

It's a lovely tune, perhaps a bit generic NO. Hope they manage to put out a new album before the start of the delayed Unity tour.

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant

I like it - it’s not immediately memorable in any way but there are some nice synth swirls going on.

An extended version would be great and also hoping for more material pre Unity tour

Would have been on a plane to NYC this week .... but not feeling too down about it. Will have a longer wait and will hopefully be there in ‘21 instead.
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

It's not bad, but it's pretty pedestrian. Sounds like a lost Electronic track. Not nearly beefy enough to be a solid NO track. I don't think even a Hooky bass could improve it much to be honest.

Nevertheless, I wont complain too hadr - new NO material is always welcomed, but probably wont be buying it unless it lands on a new album too.

track sounds more PSB, than New Order. really would fit well as the B-Side for "Did You See Me Coming?", actually.

Just received an email from New Order/Rhino to celebrate the 16th anniversary of "...Sirens Call"

Maybe reading too much into this, but the banner at the top has links to NO website - HOME - TOUR - STORE, and so a click from my email to TOUR led me directly to the piece about their upcoming dates including the current Unity Tour date starting Sept 2021.

You'd think maybe, if there was any inclination to postpone/cancel, they wouldn't go out of their way to banner tour dates right at the top of their email?

Thoughts anyone or is it just emailer laziness?!

Hi! my first post. Been lurking for years.
I was supposed to see the tour in Toronto in 2020 and left the ticket for 2021, but just got a courtesy refund per my request from ticketmaster. I was supposed to fly and see the show, then travel in Canada as well, yet for me personally on these crazy corona times, it just feels scary with this plan. Although I already got jabbed twice with Pfizer, sitting on a plane for 12 hours scares me, maybe even paying for hotel self-isolation, etc. Not for me. Also making plans for September now just adds more stress to a stressful year as it is. I was surprised ticketmaster agreed that quickly. I wonder if it were them being nice because of the whole corona situation or maybe they know something?

Sorry to hear you've had to cancel Michaela. If it's any comfort, it's starting to turn into the proverbial shit-show here in Ontario. Our provincial premier, Doug Ford just announced a 28 day lockdown to combat the 3rd wave of Covid, but the devils in the details, because it's far from it. More or less everything remains open, including schools, shops, churches. I'm a pessimistic guy, and I seriously doubt that's going to have much effect. Our ICU admissions are about to go through the roof, and vaccination rollout is an utter shambles.

I really hope PSB and NO have the good grace to realise that going ahead with this Toronto show will not make for the fun experience it should be, even if it is allowed to go ahead, and that a postponement (I'd be sad for a cancellation entirely) is the best way to go for now.

I read yesterday that Ontario was going into another lockdown :( , I hope the situation improves for you quickly. It was the same here until mid Feb - an official lockdown but everyone went on as usual with their daily business.. It is indeed for the best imo to postpone to make sure everyone feels safe. I guess we'll find out soon. If it does take place next year, I might plan something again. Or if a miracle happens and all is fine by Sep, I might plan again.
Last year I had it all booked, then cancelled flights and lost money (I had insurance but the deductible was high), and planning again in this current climate I believe is just nerve-wracking, and I guess in a way attending such a big show with so much crowd.

Regardless of vaccines, additional waves, closures, openings, closures, openings, closures, openings, delays, bottlenecks, delays, bottlenecks, lockdowns, lockups, lockdowns, lockups, curfews, free reign, curfews, free reign, travel restrictions, travel freedom, blah, blah, blah and uncontrollable uncertainty, it must be almost next to impossible to be able to stage a thriving and profitable tour in 2021 with getting equipment, bands, staff moved from point A to point B and everything is so globally interconnected in terms of shipping...the pandemic has sent ripple effects across the globe that won't stop for some time...I'm not sure this North American tour will happen on its current schedule.
