Remaking the albums: Please

#1 Post by Nickname »

We are going to do that from time to time with most of PSB albums (specially with the ones that have Further Listenings versions). You have to choose ten songs between the ones that appear on the album and its further listenings in order to create a better album. You can include long running tracks (even extended versions) included in the Further Listenings to complete your own album. Choose the order of the tracklist according to you. If you know an unreleased song from that era not included on the further listenings, you can include it too, but it has to be a proper song.

This is the one I choose.

PLEASE

Two divided by zero
Opportunities (reprise)
Opportunities (Let's make Lots of Money) (Full Length Original Seven-Inch)
A Man Could Get Arrested" (Seven-Inch B-Side)
Love comes quickly
Tonight Is Forever
Why don't we live together?
In the night
West End Girls
Suburbia (the full horror mix)

You may wish to stick the Reprise of Opportunities after the full length:

Greetings,

The only change I would make is to replace the album version of Suburbia with either the Video Mix or 7" mix... they themselves admit that the album version of Suburbia is a bit demo-ish and under done, and only really came into its own once it was mixed and remixed for single release.

Retro. :)

Although any of the three different lengths of single versions of Suburbia are clearly superior to the Please one, I wouldn't make this change. The stripped back album version matches the feel of later tracks on the album such as Violence, and the Mendelssohn produced single mix acts as a wonderful transitional bridge between Please and overproduced Actually tracks such as It's A Sin - as well as a beefed up surprise on Disco, where this production belongs. It's a great lead-in to Actually that belongs between the first two albums, rather than on the first one.

To be honest I don't feel the need to change any of the albums, assuming most of us have the option to make our own playlists and I listen to all of the albums on shuffle from time to time and I have a playlist of all the albums with the singles removed along with b sides and unreleased songs which is always good to listen to do. Nickname, not putting the mockers on your thread as it gives people something to think about but how could you leave off I want a lover?
