Choose the 5 th single (if there is a new one)

#1 Post by Nickname »

I think PSB has plans for a new Disco album and the next year they need one to promote the concerts, so I think they are going to use a fith single. Probably a new version of one song of Hotspot. Which one do you think they should choose?.

No option for none.

Most of the singles off this album were very poor.
They should stop while they're ahead.

...to you. I'm actually very happy with "Monkey business" and "I don't wanna", content with "Burning the heather" - the only dud was "Dreamland", pretty flaccid.

I love Happy People, and think it could have had an amazing single version. I'd have chosen it as a single over Monkey Business or Burning the Heather.

I also think that it sounds like something the wider audience would associate with PSB so another reason to consider it as a choice.

It's actually my favourite song on Hotspot.

The interview with Ralph Moore a few months ago implied that the 'Hotspot era is not over' so I think we will be getting either a new single or a Disco-style album or both. It could well be a limited edition through the website thing like Undertow. Personally, I think they'll spend the next few months making a new album seems as how they've got unexpected time on their hands.

Just ignore him, and btw Dreamland was the obvious single from Hotspot 😊

Probably Happy people or Wil o the Wisp, if there was one. What really stands out for me is how consistent the album is, there really isn't any song that I feel the need to skip. Usually I will just stop it before the Wedding though,

Oh, I forgot to chip in - would love "Hoping for a miracle" or "Only the dark".

Dreamland sounds like a commercial song. Neil thinks it had been a hit in the 80's and the song could have been played on Radio 1 even nowadays. I thought it was going to be better, it's not bad, it has all the elements of a pop song (verse+chorus+verse+chorus+brigdes+chorus) and Iiked it. But I don't know why, it doesn't make feel exciting in full. Anyway, it's a good song for single material. Even more with Years and Years/Olly Allexander on it.

Burning the Heather doesn't sound commercial but it's the kind of song PSB love. I understand why they like this kind of songs and it's not bad but it's not for me.

Monkey Busines is the best track of the album and the most interesting. I even think it's quite funky and I love funky music. I love the way Neil sings the song and the final part "flew in from the city..." is simply amazing.

I don't Wanna is not particulary interesting. There are loads of PSB songs better than this. It's not bad but a bit random from my perspective.

So, I think most of us watch Will-o-the-Wisp like a clear single material and it is a perfect opener for Dreamworld Tour. It sounds very PSB and it's a good song. A second option, Happy People. It works even better from the perspective of a society post-Covid-19.

Aside from these song I give a chance to one ballad, the song Only the Dark is a beatiful surprise on this album. This track in 80's like part of the soundtrack of a movie would have worked even in USA.

I just made a 60 min long mixed setlist with Wedding in Berlin just to prove a point:
