Memory of the...past

Years and years (ago)...around the time of Nightlife onwards, I used to meet up with other fans and go to various events... or just chat about the boys, in person (not online!)

Things I remember:
Going to a one off event at a venue in North London (maybe something to do with Home & Dry?)
Going to opening night of the musical and sneaking into the after show party at the bar, under the theatre.
Tracking down where Neil lived in Chelsea.
Seeing Neil go into a bar on Charing Cross.
Record signings for Release and the Re issues (Tower records?)
Going on a coach trip to Paris for the Nightlife tour and going to a club afterwards where the boys were sitting in a VIP area -
New York city boy came on and then dancing with the backing singers from the record on the dance floor.
oh and ..also I was on front row in Savoy Theatre and being in the video for 'Somewhere' and standing outside chatting with them after the show.
Maybe other things I forgot!
Anyone else remember any stuff like that, what are your own best memories?

I have got a few memories but, they were a long time ago. When I was a teenager we went to The Claude Gill book signing. On the way there we went to 20, Manchester Square (EMI Offices). I said I was a Pet Shop Boys fan and the Security Guard gave me four promo PSB's photographs. 8)

A couple of fans took me to where Neil lived at the time and we saw him at his living room window. Another time I was going to see an Arsenal match at Highbury and we saw Chris come out of his car and go in to his flat.

We caught Neil, Chris and Dainton outside Radio 1 when they were doing Radio 1 week.

We went to the Decadance Party at Hammersmith Palais. It was lovely to meet the fans. That was a great night. Other than going to concerts I think that is about all really.

Those were the days.......

I went to that Decadance party too and was also taken by a couple of fans to see Neil’s early 1990’s house in Wimbledon.

I can't imagine Neil living south of the river.

A few memories.
Highbury, sitting on a bench waiting for Chris to come out of his flat which he did do then drove off. I was blissfully happy for that glimpse.
Decadence party at Palais - wasn't it some fanzine event? I still have a poster. Just dug out all my fanzines from the early 90s - Of Course/Its a Maga Sin/PSB Possibly....
Finding and buying a replica of Chris jacket from ICHH and wearing it to a record signing.

just a little memory - bumped into Neil crossing Waterloo Bridge exactly 3 years ago today! It was quite surreal as I was listening to Please at the time ... had a little chat with him.

I have it in my calendar as an annual reminder ... :)

Anyone else met the boys, or has fan stories?

Met them very briefly at Tower Records signing. Some of the longer term members here will know the story - Chris took the piss out of my Doncaster Rovers shirt - I have little respect for the piss taking of someone from Blackpool that 'supports' Arsenal. ;)

Neil Got a little bit sniffy about the fact that Mark Farrow was selling his designs (back when they were made physically, not on a computer) as the CD design artwork for 'So hard' (along with an album re-issue) was what I presented for them to sign.

--then the next time I met Neil and Chris was at the after show party in Miami for the "Nightlife Tour" stop in 1999
--I have a photo with both Neil and Chris from a Studio 54 NYC promo party for "Nightlife" in 1999
--sitting behind Neil at one of the Arts Theatre's "Closer to Heaven" preview shows in London in 2001
--drinking Russian Vodka at the Russian themed after show party with N&C right after the Battleship Potemkin concert in Trafalgar Square in 2004
--having a glass of white wine with Neil and his friends at Sadler Wells in London at one of the intermissions of "The Most Incredible Thing" in 2011

What a great idea for a thread. I have bumped into them a few times around London but amazingly never intentionally. Whenever I go to gigs and what have you I never actually manage to meet them let alone see them. But over the years I have had a few chance encounters:

- First time was in a restaurant non Frith Street in Soho in summer 2001. They were both having dinner before going to a Closer to Heaven event at Heaven nightclub. I chatted to them for about five minutes. Chris was very talkative, Neil slightly less so. We talked about the musical and I asked when they would do a new album. Looking back I think they were very accommodating of me blathering on whilst their food got cold.
- Then I saw them both at Heaven nightclub in April 2006. Only time I have ever been to Heaven. We were in a VIP area with a designer friend of ours and both Neil and Chris were there with a small group of friends. I chatted to Neil for a very long time (twenty minutes or so) about the impending release of Fundamental, current pop music, things like that. I thought he was a thoroughly nice man. And again very accommodating of me grilling him about PSB!
- I then sat on the table next to Neil and Janet Street-Porter at The Delaunay restaurant in London in about 2014. I didn't talk to him. I decided that having bothered them twice before my days of interrupting their private time was over.
- And then finally the day after the final ROH performance in 2017 I was having lunch with my wife on Lambs Conduit St in London and Neil walked outside the restaurant with a lady with a wheelie case (who I think was his sister?) My wife spotted him and said very loudly "isn't that Neil Tennant with a wheelie case?" The people on the table next to us couldn't stop laughing

Pardon, was that 2016 or 2018? ROH performances were in those years but not in 2017.
(In 2017 was RAH, and only one :D ).
Not sure if it is just me or not but, these seem like a very long time ago now. I am losing track of all time. :?
