Hey, Super - that's a really good album

#1 Post by telys »

I thought I was going to listen through some of the Price-material. Turns out I put on Super from start to end and this time I even liked Happiness a lot. I think it's a great album when listening through it, it puts you in a good mood, a little bit happy, not too euphoric though, just a tidy bit happy, enough to make it through a part of the day.
That's what albums are for isn't it, starting at one end and finishing at the end. One sometimes tend to forget that.
Especially Dictator Decides got to me. The beginning of that song is some of the best PSB has ever done.

I also did a run through of Behaviour and man... that's a masterpiece.. but we all know that don't we.

Happiness is great. My girlfriend loves this track. And I think Burn is one of the best things they've done in the past decade. The problem I have with Super is that there's quite a bit filler for me (Sad robot world and Say it to me just don't work for me). I think I rate it somewhere in the middle of the PSB canon.

No filler. It's one of those quite coherent albums.
Please, Disco, Actually, Introspective, Behaviour, Very, Yes and Super.

On the other side
Bilingual, Nightlife, Release, Fundamental, Elysium, Electric and Hotspot all have one or some filler or abysmal track that shouldn't have been on there at all.

I agree with you that "Super" will be reappraised at some point as one of their better albums; solid pop all the way through.
I disagree about "Electric", it's incredibly engaging from beginning to end, and in my opinion their best effort since "Very."

Super still is my least favourite PSB-album by a mile.

I love "Super"! I'd say the trilogy was consistently strong, despite the naysayers.

Super has some, well, super tracks on it such as the Pop kids, say it to me, undertow and into thin air. I’ve never liked twenty-something, pazzo or groovy though.
Just for the sake of it, make sure you're always frowning. :|
It shows the world that you've got substance and depth.

For me, the four song run of Undertow, Sad robot world, Say it to me and Burn is the strongest of any album.
Woof.

Burn is one of the highlights of the Price era.

My keepers are: Happiness, Twenty-something, Dictator, Inner sanctum, Sad robot world, Say it to me, Burn, Into thin air
Overrated: The Pop Kids, Undertow
For the bin: Groovy, Pazzo!

I like even the bin tier, but they're not something I'd put on the album if I had the power.

Super is a great listen.. I wasn’t a big fan of inner sanctum until I bought the IS dvd. Now it’s one of my favourite tracks on the album.. the live shows brought it to life for me! I think the whole Stuart Price period is a total success. I think he totally rejuvenated the boys’ sound with electric & Super was a fantastic follow up.. I agree with the comments praising pop kids & burn.. say it to me is, for me, classic psb.. 8)
