POLL: What album is Hotspot most similar to?

#1 Post by jasonjohn » Thu 13 Feb 2020, 6:16 am

Here's a poll for you

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/V5F9RCQ

It's an open question that has many factors in answering, but thought I'd keep it simple. (also, forum polls can't fit all the albums)

Bit sad Geowayne isn't around for these things, it's hardly the same!

Anyway, let's see....

I would say Nightlife, especially when it comes to the overall theme and mood of the album. Production wise it comes, of course, closer to the previous two albums. I am tired of the Stuart Price sound, so I'm thankful they are finished with him!

Super. The Stuart Price sound, but more variance, Electric was banger after banger, Super had a more diversity with 'slower' tracks like The Dictator Decides and Sad Robot World.

Yes, I think it's most similar to Nightlife, but Hotspot is a better, more consistent album.
Love comes quickly, but is a catastrophe and a bourgeois construct etc.

A surprisingly clear winner so far.

There quite a difference in "sound" between Electric and Hotspot. Let's not fall into the trap of "it all sounds the same", when we know PSB are quite varied :)

Def Elysium. how can it be nightlife? night life was electronic music with orchestra. Elysium however was upbeat songs paired with slow songs with pretty much all electronic and minimal real world instruments....just like hotspot. so if we are talking 2 albums both with a mixture of upbeat and slow songs...they do both hit on that respect, but it has to be given to Elysium because instrumentation wise it is more similar to hotspot than night life.

yeah, but if we are being technical, super was a pure electronic album, hotspot isnt. yes they both have upbeat and slow songs, but thats where it ends. if we are comparing albums as a whole, hot spot is more similar to Elysium than it is to super due to instrumentation

Yeah I don't think there's much to Hotspot that makes it sound like Nightlife. I think the comparisons start and end with Monkey Business, which is this albums New York City Boy.
I'm a proud sycophant because I like Wedding in Berlin

Really depends how people are judging "similar", it's a pretty broad question like I said.

Production and sound is one thing, but there is also the theme of "going out" looking for trouble.

I believe Hotspot is also mist similar in sound and style / production to that of Elysium.
