Extras thus far:

Presented in High Definition and Standard Definition
Limited Edition 48-page Digi-book includes writing on the film by Anthony Nield, Jason Wood and William Fowler
Feature commentary by Jack Bond, James Dillon and Simon Archer (2020)
Interview with Jack Bond (2020)
Other extras TBC

It Couldn't Happen Here (Ltd Edition DVD + Blu-ray)
Directed by Jack Bond

Originally conceived as an hour-long video based on the Pet Shop Boys 1987 album, Actually, It Couldn't Happen Here turned into a full-scale feature film directed by Jack Bond (The Blueblack Hussar).

The first feature-length film starring the Pet Shop Boys alongside Joss Ackland, Gareth Hunt and Barbara Windsor finds Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe on an extraordinary adventure from the coast to London, encountering a curious array of eccentric characters along the way. Pop surrealism meets classic road movie, the film is peppered with hits from the duo's first studio albums, including 'West End Girls', 'It's a Sin', and 'Always On My Mind'.

Never less than fascinating, It Couldn't Happen Here is a truly unique film and one that has sadly been unavailable. Newly remastered by the BFI from a 4K scan, we are delighted to present the worldwide Blu-ray and DVD debut.

We need to keep everything crossed for a PSB commentary. I think they’ve said themselves that that would be their main reason for wanting a reissue.
Woof.

I also sincerely wish they release a dvd for HIGHLIGHTS or the full MCMLXXXIX tour!
Didn’t they already rule that out years ago? The reason was that the footage isn’t up to scratch or something like that.
I recall them saying somewhere in the last few years that both ICHH and MCMLXXXIX (in full) would be coming out on DVD, so guess they may have changed their mind about the quality of the footage. It'd certainly be a great historical document now.

Always hoped for a 2 disc release which included both. MCMLXXXIX could be the reward for making it through ICHH...! I jest actually, as I always quite enjoyed the movie, absurd as it was. I find it quite evocative of run down UK seaside towns.
Jeez,i certainly hope that is the case.would be amazing!

Funny how I’m also eagerly awaiting a blu ray release, but at the same time remembering I didn’t like the movie very much. I have it on VHS and watched it five times or so in the 90s, but I found many parts either embarrassing or boring or both. I think the psb could have been in it more, all their bits were very enjoyable.

Finally!

Stop the car, I’m getting out: This is such great news.

The film is so surreal I cannot wait for a commentary; not that I expect it to really explain anything! Something loosely about the boys on a journey and being untouchable.

Somehow I’ve never managed to watch this ... it’s gonna be an interesting watch for sure and I think I’ll feel equal parts elated, nostalgic and embarrassed Image
you could say conventional ... and I could claim intentional

Am I the only one who thought this a terrible film? Saw this at the cinema on release and also bought the video.

I would love of complete version of the guys doing a full-on rap version of West End Girls if we're still doing a bonus features wish list.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, it lurches from toe-curling pretension to teeth scraping tedium, often within the same scene (the cod-philosophising dummy seemed to drag on for hours) There are many things wrong with it, but it's a unique document of PSB at the height of their imperial phase. It'll be great to have it on disc - the BFI tend to put together nice packages.

Ridiculous extras wishlist: i'd like an alternate audio track replacing the tinny demo of Always on my mind (& Neil singing badly over the top) with the full-fat version. Remember that being a big disappointment on the first watch - especially as the promo vid was cobbled together from the film...
