I'm glad that they put the line in. Even though most of us live in marriage equality countries, many of their fans don't and it's good to have a shout out to those people who still live in backward countries.
So OK...if that´s the case, it's clearly a song with a particular "second" message...not just an universal anthem to play in any wedding with the "ONLY" purpose to celebrate two human beings joining his life together. Of couse that´s the "main" message...but not the "only" one then. Maybe it was my mistake to assume that this was the unique intention, and sadly take away my fantasy to use the vocal version for me some day... (because for sure I will not have the intention to give any second messages in that particular moment of my life, that possibly divert the attention to another place than me and the person by my side). But we have the instrumental...so no big deal anyway. Just sharing a few toughts. ;)
This is not my signature.

Lyrics: "We're getting married, because we love each other"

Ummm... is there some other reason? Tax scam? Green card? For a dare?

We’re getting married
Because we’re drunk in Las Vegas
I'm a proud sycophant because I like Wedding in Berlin

Musically, the tune is rather jolly.

Lyrically, it sounds like it's written by a child (for example Neil's granddaughter, if he has one).

I fear the song will always be the worse song on the album. Since Neil said there's no hidden message it will always be as bad as it is. At best it could have been an obscure demo for cth. But the lyrics are just not psb.

Hi there!

This is my first post here... So risky... But I shall do it!

The closing track of Hotspot is definitely controversial for many of us: "so weak", "it's a shame", "should have been replaced by decide", and so on...

My point of view: an instant gold nugget! A so unexpected track in terms of song structure, fluctuating between love and irony.

Note: I should mention I may be influenced by the fact my girlfriend and myself have decided to get married in 2023 (so more in line with the love side of my last sentence)...

Cheers,
DJ Veef
It's a song it will get played a lot at weddings. That's for sure.
Neil Tennant has a great voice, Chris Lowe has great silence.

It is so cringe. Like Jivebunny has made an unwanted comeback.
Counts Give it a Go and Winner as friends.

The only coldspot on the album IMHO. It should have stayed as a gift for friends.
How very dare you! "Give it a go" is my favourite track on Elysium.

I would say this is in the same cringe league as "Ego music".
I rule. You don't.

Worst PSB song in their history in my opinion. Absolutely terrible. Quite why they put this on the album is frankly beyond me? I've burnt a copy of Hotspot on a CDR and have put Decide in it's place and the album is so much better for it it's unreal!

Absolutely puzzled as to how this made the cut?

Liked it when I first heard it, still do. I take it for what it is, I'm not trying to fit it in the same mould as the likes of Being boring, it's just shallow, stupid fun. I'd say it is to Hotspot what Shouting in the evening is to Electric or Pazzo! is to Super (both of which I like a lot by the way).

We're getting married
because she's rich and I'm not, we're getting married today.

I’d say it has more in common with Happiness from Super... both dance tracks with very few lyrics; one is a techno dance rodeo song, the other a housey dance wedding song. 😎

Happiness does seem like a better comparison, now that you mention it. Even their lyrical structures are similar. Chanting "married" over and over vs spelling "happiness" letter by letter for example.
