I still don't know what to say about the album. I don't listen to it quite often, but I think it's not so bad.
I listen to the Agenda more than Hotspot. The Forgotten Child is amazing, I love it so much. I also think "For every moment" should be on the album.

This is how I would rank/group the songs from one to ten with ten being the best value.

10: I don't wanna
9: Will-o-the-wisp, Happy people, Hoping for a miracle, Monkey business, Burning the heather
8: You are the one, Dreamland, Only the dark
7: Wedding in Berlin

That's an average of 8.6. So rounding off, if I was reviewing this album I would give it 9/10 or 4.5/5 stars.

Although there are songs on Electric and Super that I like as much as anything on Hotspot or more, overall I think this is the most consistently good album of the trilogy and one of their best albums. I've been listening to it a lot over the last couple of weeks and I never feel the need to skip a song.

Agreed, the only track that is a bit of a skipper for me is Monkey Buisness.

Hotspot has definitely a synthwave vibe going, esp. Only the dark.

I think the words "Happy People" comes from the Offer Nissim album and song.
Not my kind of music, but the fact PSB collaborated with this artist before Hotspot to me shows they would be aware of the song and album.
The lyrics repeat "I wanna see more happy people".
It shows the contrast of Neil's writing, adding the "living in a sad world" to it.

Belatedly voicing my opinion on Hotspot because I couldn't remember my forum login info.

For me, Hotspot is their finest album since Very. It sounds 80s, it sounds 90s, and yet still has a vibe that is current and fresh today. Another thread mentioned that the album it sounds most similar to is Nightlife, but I disagree with this as Nightlife is my least favourite PSB album. The only way I would say it is "similar" is in its pretty even split of up-tempo and slower songs.

The ballads are some of the finest PSB have done in recent decades. Monkey Business is fun, Happy People sounds like New Order and Very at the same time. Burning the heather is just beautiful (and my favourite track). Wedding in Berlin jarred with me at first, but it's grown on me now. It's a slightly bonkers album-closer but certainly not as bad as the closing track on Yes. Perhaps the album should have contained Decide and An open mind, but then again it's exciting to have great b-sides. You can't have it all.

Favourite 3 tracks since Very: Leaving, Vocal, Burning the heather.

EDIT: Thanks leesmapman for pointing out my error of stating "Leaving" was the Stuart Price era. Amended now, to my favourite 3 tracks since Very :!:

Oops! I'll amend - I meant to list my favourite 3 tracks since Very (seeing as I mentioned Very in the post). Cheers.

Is it me or does Happy People have elements of the house classic 'Let Me Love You For Tonight' by Kariya..? Not complaining, I love both tracks..!
