Vid and music are really good but the lyrics are utterly devoid of any merit. A focus on banging tunes instead of social commentary might be the way forward.

And what have they been utterly successful at doing since going indie?

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant

Jesus more people moaning

I’m delighted they are doing this, these new songs have put a smile on my face for the first time in ages.

And let’s not forget this is a band we first heard some 34/35 years ago and they owe us nothing.

I have read so many stupid comments on here over the past two days Just enjoy. If you can’t ssay anything nice then don’t bother!

tucky, what is exactly is the point of the forum if we are all just saying nice things?
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

well I come here because they are the soundtrack to my life. I get them, they get me.

You?

Im surprised and utterly delighted at this rather fabulous release yet I’ve read so many daft comments since yesterday lunchtime. Each to their own.

Neil is clearly a bit cross these days about the state of the world. Where his politics would normally be at least somewhat buried in the lyrical content to offer some interesting ambiguity, these are far from it.

Personally, I quite like both GSAC and OSM. It might not be Neil at his lyrical best, but I think it speaks to not just how HE feels but also about the world we live in today. Despite the appearance of lacking depth, it could just be that that's exactly the point Neil is trying to make about the current state of play in the world. If everything is so superficial and obvious why shouldn't he be too? Fair play, I say!

There's a sense of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" to all of this if you ask me.

The wit of the OSM lyric video is nicely done too.

I always am aware that people have varied opinions on what PSB song they like...but I honestly dont get how people arent absolutely going bonkers over "on social media"...this might one of their all time finest songs ever...the perfect trifecta between, music....lyric...and production.
I have always said...I only really need 3 all time favorites on any new PSB release...and here we are the ...actual...main new album hasnt even been completed and released and I already have one song that is an alltime fav.

+ 1

I love OSM - both the lyrics & the video 8) It feels like Neil is tongue in cheek and/or doing a major piss take

On Social Media just played on UK National BBC Radio 2 - the most listened to radio station in the country!
We’re different from the others.
No one understands us here.
Imagine how free we will be,
If we disappear?

Really like the song and the video. Great lyrics (again)!

When I listen to OSM, I always hear "unsocial media"
I wonder if this is intentional ? :)

Trevor Horn was a guest on BBC 6Music's Roundtable to review the week's new releases. On Social Media was up first.
