Compared to previous tours, this one seemed a bit bland. Not much going on on-stage.

What a lovely, warm, celebratory film. There's a joyousness here, and the 75-minute edit is lovingly executed giving us a broad range of songs from across the entire catalogue.

The film doesn't really do justice to the spectacular laser show that really can only be experienced live for full effect, but as concert films go there is a warmth at play that brings a smile to the face.

Love comes quickly, Vocal, and It's a sin are highlights, but really every song here deserves its place.

The whole thing is valedictory, and it's clear just how wonderful it is to have them releasing modern classics like Love etc, Love is a bourgeois construct, and the Pop Kids as they come to the end of their fourth decade. That's one of the beauties of this film: it's not simply a heritage piece (though it is certainly that). It lives and breathes the here and now as much as it evokes nostalgia in fellow-travellers who have followed every step of the journey.

Some of the overhead shots are wonderful, and it's fun to see a beaming Chris captured before his face returns to its vacant, blank default. His little skip at the end sort of sums it all up.

Inner Sanctum is a feel-good tour and this film captures how beloved this band is.

Drico.
Thanks for the great review Drico. Something to look forward to this year. Can't wait to see it on DVD.

Why won't they perform "Undertow"? It was a single.
Yes, I've never understood that either. Would have been absolutely storming live, what a missed opportunity.

Fu*king magnificent.

The only thing that was a tad underwhelming and frankly.weird sounding was Vocal, the others were the bomb - even the much maligned New York city boy.

Wish we had more Super Versions released during the Super period, prefer the cleaner sound of the studio version of Left to my own devices - Domino Dancing is lovely in the same way, seems to be based on the Base Mix.

That’s the thing about negative energy, about hatred. It can be positive. It throws into relief all the things you know you like. It tells you, by elimination, what you’re about. Sometimes you can only define yourself by what you hate. Hatred becomes an inspiration; it makes you think, “What I’m doing now I totally believe in, and I don’t care what other people say.” Guided by hatred, you don’t have to follow the herd. - Neil Tennant
