CD3 - West End Girls, what is the Shep Pettibone Disco Mix? Never heard of that? I have the Mastermix and the Dub Mix, from the UK 12” Remix by Shep Pettibone. The standard 12” has the Dance Mix and then you have the untitled 10” mix. So I’d love to know where I can hear this Shep Disco Mix please and what format it was on!

Thanks

Oh, would have made more sense to call it ‘Disco’ album version but thanks for clearing it up for me

@Danimal, I feel that way about all the current releases also, in terms of loudness, but I would appear to be in the minority.

The older I get, the less tolerance I have for loud, and I haven't listened to any of the recent albums for quite some time for that reason. That said, some of the mastering on CD's from the 80's is atrociously tinny and not any better (not necessarily PSB CD's).
And tryin' to figure out what happened to 'Germaine Propaine'
"He couldn't have fell off that hard" Ain't no way
"What happened to the way you was rappin' when you was scandalous
That Canibus turned into a television evangelist"
Plus he raps with his regular voice [BOOSH! BOOSH!]
[BOOSH! BOOSH!] (What was that?) Pet Shop Boys

If they’re going to do box sets then it should be one box per album. So the Please cd singles in one box, The Actually ones in the next etc etc....
is is and isnt isnt

Yes, 4 CDs at a time would make them reasonably priced as well.

To make it consistent, I think it should start with the original 7" A and B sides (with its variations), then go on to 12" A and B sides, remix 12" A and B sides, reissue versions, import versions, promo-only versions and unreleased versions. Minor variations (e.g. Opportunities - original 12" rough edit from Further Listening) and tracks that are easily available (e.g. standard LP versions) should maybe be omitted unless there's need to fill space up.

Disc 1. Opportunities
Opportunities (original 7")
Opportunities (7" remix edit)
Opportunities (Ron Dean Miller 7")
In The Night
Opportunities (dance mix)
Opportunities (version latina)
Opportunities (dub for money)
Opportunities ('86 Hague 7")
Was That What It Was?
Opportunities (Shep Pettibone mastermix)
Opportunities (Shep Pettibone reprise)
In The Night (Arthur Baker dub 1)
In The Night (Arthur Baker dub 2)
Opportunities (original 7" full length)
<insert interesting unreleased, unknown, track here, e.g. Was That What It Was - demo version>

Disc 2. West End Girls
West End Girls (Hague 7")
A Man Could Get Arrested (Spiro 7")
West End Girls (Hague 10" extended)
A Man Could Get Arrested (12")
West End Girls (dance mix)
West End Girls (Shep Pettibone mastermix)
West End Dub
A Man Could Get Arrested (Bobby 'O' original mix) - presuming that such a thing exists
A Man Could Get Arrested (12" with alternate intro - as on Further Listening)
West End Girls (1985 demo)

Disc 3. Love Comes Quickly
Love Comes Quickly
That's My Impression
Love Comes Quickly (dance mix)
That's My Impression (disco mix)
Love Comes Quickly (Shep Pettibone mastermix)
Love Comes Quickly (dub)
That's My Impression (demo)
Love Comes Quickly (demo)
That's My Impression (12" alt. mix with diff intro)
Love Comes Quickly (Blank & Jones remix)

Disc 4. Suburbia
Suburbia (7")
Paninaro
Jack The Lad
Love Comes Quickly (Shep Pettibone mastermix - 7" fade)
Suburbia (pt. 2)
Suburbia (the full horror)
Paninaro (the Pet Shop Boys mix)
Paninaro (Ian Levine remix)
Suburbia (club vocal)
Suburbia (dub)
Paninaro (Ian Levine dub)
Suburbia (video edit)
Jack The Lad (demo) - just wishing that things like these exist

Love Comes Quickly (Blank & Jones remix) would be a big no from me. Only in the Release/PopArt box set, along with Paris city boy, hehe

Disco.

It's funny for me to see this thread developping as lately I've been starting to make my own remastered PSB CD singles, frustrated by the lack of comprehensive re-releases.
So I ripped tracks on vinyl and cleaned them as much as I could or even reconstructed some of them when I didn't own copies featuring the most rare remixes. So it's supposed to be as close as CD quality as possible.
As an example of my work, here is the first (1985) issue of Opportunities: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WckJ2r ... sp=sharing
Included is the cover based on the artwork done for the back covers of the FL series.

They've talked of a release like this for some time. I think it'd be great for many fans, but I really hope it gets a digital download release with no 'album only' tracks you can't get without buying the whole release.

I already have many of the mixes on compilations and 'Further Listening' reissues and would like to just be able to download the handful of rare tracks and non-CD remixes that interest me. I suspect a CD version would be horrendously expensive it it was catch-all and comprehensive, so would rather dip into a digital version - as I did with those Depeche Mode singles boxes on iTunes.

I think a 30 GBP price tag would be fair for a five CD box set?

I second the idea that they should just put all the remixes online to either stream or for track by track purchase.

I don't want or would listen to an entire CD of very similar West End Girls remixes myself...

Yeah, they wouldn't be for individual listening, of course, hahaha. Who the Hell could survive the 90s mixes? That's where I'd struggle even compiling most of the stuff... It's easy up to "Very". Then comes the Dark Age of a million versions until approx. 2003 with occasional exceptions.

I like most of the Very remixes myself but having the tracks to stream or purchase individually would make sense given differing tastes.

Why do I have to dig out and rip my US import of Go West to listen digitally to the amazing Kevin Saunderson Trance Mix of the track?

Of course, entirely a First World problem, but given as a substitute I can just (illegally?) play said remix on YouTube at any time, it seems a silly waste of lost revenue for PSB.
