I absolutely love the video. It's edgy, it's interesting, it adds a new perspective to the song. It's real-life. It's reality for so many people.
The black and white works well and it's beautifully shot.
I don't see the guy as some thug but as someone with limited options, trying his best.
It's full of emotion and wonderful acting.
It shows depth and maturity on behalf of the boys to release something like this. It's risky and unusual for them.
I would go so far as saying that it is, perhaps, the best video they've ever made.

Oh my wooly word that works. it shouldn't but it does. This "might" actually get some decent online prescence because of this video.

I was half-expecting Daddy Yankee to appear halfway through with a new "middle-eight" to camera......
is is and isnt isnt

Hmmm. Interesting that it reminds me a bit of official video for The Prayers' "West End girls" goth cover version. All those black males, tattoos and piercings, streets and graffiti, black-and-white shooting. It's even intriguing if we recall the theme shared by two songs: troubled youth in dystopian human anthill of asphalt and steel. So, in the end, it seems like video for last year's cover version inspired the video for successor of the original song.
And opening stills makes me remember "Memory of the future" lyric video.

"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."

The PSB have made it his video as a gift for all of their South American fans. It did not escape my simplistic attention, of the hugely excited and great comments this song got on Youtube. The PSB have made a wise decision, and aimed this squarely at this audience. It's paricularly clever that they have set it in the huge US/Mexico border city of San Diego, which now ties-in the whole Latino population of the Southern US as well of course Mexico. It is an incredibly shrewd marketing move.

The video, especially the last few seconds a tragically fantastic (if I can use those words together). And yes, it has been beautifully filmed.

:D Just noticed on OS:
The video for the song was directed by Gavin Filipiak, who caught the attention of Pet Shop Boys when he directed the video for a cover of ‘West End Girls’ by the US “Cholo Goth” group, Prayers.

Attn. Moderators: since the official video has now been confirmed and released, this thread title is unintentionally a bit misleading. Perhaps a small topic heading edit is needed?

Many people may miss this unless someone wants to start a seperate thread. And I don't want to be that guy... at least right now.

We are all entitled to our opinions, but if anyone cares, I couldn't disagree with you more stongly.

Solid narrative video even though it has a predictable trajectory. Another fine addition to their HappySad PSB universe. The fact that the plight of the twenty-something crosses cultural and geographical boundaries makes me even think about the challenges extend to different age groupings in this globalized world.

What a great video.

Yes depressing --- But how real is this story.

And agreed it didn't match what i PERSONALLY heard in the lyrics. But now I see it, the lyrics still work... maybe even better.

The song is about expectations VS reality. There is contrast. And this video adds an extra level of contrast. And I like it!

My only wish would be a brief cameo from Neil and Chris. Maybe Neil could of been the drug cartel boss, and Chris the junkie buying. I joke.

I think this is one of their most interesting videos of past 15 years and it makes the song so much better.

It's a very timely video especially for the US, where we have about 2 million people in prison. Mass incarceration is a big political issue here, and once someone has been in prison, it is pretty much impossible for them to ever find a decent job again. In some states, ex prisoners can't even vote.
