X2 cataloging

#1 Post by Old Soak » Mon 21 Mar 2016, 9:36 pm

The Pop Kids is catalogued as No.9 in the series - X20009CD1 for the new single. I'm trying to fathom how they reached 9 already - what am I missing please? Can anyone provide a list?

x20001 - Axis
x20002 - Vocal
x20003 - Electric
x20004 - Love Is A Bourgeois Construct
x20005 - Thursday
x20006 - Fluorescent
x20007 - Inner Sanctum/The Pop Kids (Promo) <--- still have the feeling this formerly was planned as an different single with the tracklists and mixnames which first appeared in the news of superdeluxeedition.co.uk and later got denunciated as fake
x20008 - Super
x20009 - The Pop Kids
x20010 - Happiness ?

Ah, ha! Thanks. Surprised Super is catalogued before The Pop Kids which seems inconsistent with how Electric was No.3, in strict chronological order of release. Also surprised at Inner Sanctum having a number as just a teaser track. Axis got a physical release.

another sign for the "x20007 was planned as a single" theory. We'll find out, when we later get some remixes from Joakim, Agoria, a PSB Synth Trip and a Stewart Price Extended Mix of an "Super" song with b-sides "It's Up To You Now", "Lead A Normal Life" and "Secret Alphabet"

It's not a surprise, because on certain sites Inner Sanctum had to have a separate catalogue number because they don't support instant download pre-order tracks (let's say Beatport or JunoDownload). The artwork is still that of Super, it's just that the track gets treated as a separate release because of the above-mentioned reasons.

Happiness is out in JunoDownload with the Cat. No. 20010DL1. So the next single will be 20011.

Maybe they have ordered even more remixes for a later 2x12'' release of "The Pop Kids" (as was with singles from "Electric") and all catalogue numbers were already appointed, but then some of remixers were unable to deliver finished works for first 12'' / download bundle #3 in time, and Boys were forced to postpone/cancel the latter?

By the way, I wonder why bundle of Flashmob remixes of "Vocal" has no place in this registry? I know it was released under "Defected" label, but at least they were officially sanctioned remixes and, virtually, x2 is nothing more than a comprehesive list of Pet Shop Boys post-Parlophone releases.
"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."
(Neil Tennant, speaking about "Elysium" on the eve of "Electric" release.)

And for x2 0010DL1 (Happiness) .... what if, it's not only a DownLoad?

Next single? Thoughts?

Gardner I like your theory....and based on the interview on Beats 1 last week we now know that Carl Craig has the parts to Inner Sanctum but has yet to remix the track. I wonder if that plays into the missing "x20007 was planned as a single" theory...

I found this thread about catalogue numbers that interests me. In the Electric era it always bothered me, that Vocal came after Electric.

x2 0001 VL1 - Axis 12”

x2 0003 VL1 - Electric LP
x2 0003 CD1 - Electric CD
x2 0003 BP1 - Electric Playbutton
x2 0003 LP2 - Electric Boxset

x2 0002 VL1 - Vocal 12”
x2 0002 CD1 - Vocal CD

x2 0004 VL1 - Love Is A Bourgeois Construct 12”
x2 0004 CD1 - Love Is A Bourgeois Construct CD

x2 0005 VL1 - Thursday 12”
x2 0005 CD1 - Thursday CD

x2 0006 VL1 - Fluorescent 12”

But now with Super it is a total mess. Did they plan on releasing the Inner Sanctum 12" as a teaser to the album as they did with Axis/Electric. And did they decide to keep it for the ROH shows instead. And what about x2 00010? Is it reserved for Burn (I hope). Or has it already been used for Happiness download promo?

x2 0008 VL1 - Super LP
x2 0008 CD1 - Super CD

x2 0009 VL1 - The Pop Kids 12”
x2 0009 CD1 - The Pop Kids CD

x2 0011 CD1 - Twenty Something CD

x2 0007 VL1 - Inner Sanctum 12”

x2 0012 VL1 - Say It To Me 12”
x2 0012 CD1 - Say It To Me CD

I am new to this forum - this is my first post (please be gentle )

No, they just released "Inner sanctum" as download only track (for album's preorders) under X2 0007 DL1 right with announce of "Super" back in January. There was also promo CD of "Inner sanctum" under same number.

Yes, X2 0010 was another exclusive digital download for those who preordered "Super":
