Where will Elysium chart?

#1 Post by Radiophonic »

In the last couple of years, since Yes, this is how 80's bands have fared (included for the sake of context and comparison) ....

Depeche Mode - Sounds of the Universe no. 2 in 2009 (released a month after Yes)
Duran Duran - All You Need Is Now no. 11 in 2010
OMD - History of Modern no. 28 in 2010
Erasure - Tomorrow’s World no. 29 in 2011
Human League - Credo no. 44 in 2011
Ultravox - Brilliant no. 21 in 2012

Any obvious ones I've missed please feel free to add.

How will Elysium do? Guesses, estimates ...

I don't see a strong competition to be honest but I'm not British, what do you think?.

I thinks it's better to guess the artists (not only the ones who are going to launch their albums the same week) who can sell more copies than the boys the same week "Elysium" is released.

Another Abba compilation? Why can't they leave it at Gold and More Gold?

My prediction for Elysium is number 14.

7,500 sales will get you in the top 10 at the moment. You'll need a bit more to get in the top 10 in September. As things stand, they'll not get near the 28,000 sales they had on the first week for Yes, but let's wait for the real lead single before dismissing them. I'd imagine they'll shift somewhere close to 17,500 albums at least, so I suppose a number 7 or 8 is a distinct possibility. It's hard to know, really, but I can't see it going top 5 and it's not completely beyond possibility that it could miss the top 10. Fundamental sold 26,000, Release 18,000, and Nightlife 17,000 on their first weeks, respectively.

A more important question, I think, is how many tickets will they sell on next year's tour.

i hope they'll get the highest possible, there's still a possibility that with the olympics and a good second single that they get high in the charts.

I think it's a case of being cautious and realistic rather than negative. That's the reason why I posted the chart placing of some of Pet Shop Boys' 80's contemporaries - to get a clue where they might land in the current pop climate.

I personally think it will spend one week in the top ten but I hesitate to say what position.

Take a look at the list, please.

Could you tell us wich artist you think are going to have a higher position on the chart than PSB this first week?.
