I was very happy to hear West End Girls. I also thought the whole thing was quite PSB to an extent, with "Pandemonium" and the NHS beds part was so Performance! I found it very entertaining, beautiful, well put together and just about as cheesy and ridiculous as it should have been without going too over the top.

Looks like there will also be a physical CD release & possible vinyl release for all the hardcore completists:

West End girls is "Album Only".

(Quite a few Underworld tracks there, not a big surprise as they were responsible for the music selection if I got it right. Again why on earth did they play U2?? Is any other artist from outside the UK?)

It's a stretch, but Adam Clayton is from the UK, nice surprise hearing PSB.

"Miners came to the fore as the hills darkened, followed by suffragettes, in a sequence called Pandemonium, named after the capital of Hell in Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost." Reported in the Metro newspaper today.

From the BBC real-time report last night:

"Spare a thought for those drummers, keeping the tempo as the Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls is played."

Just a bit OT, anyone knows what composition was played during the "history" introduction scene (first approx. 30 minutes) at the ceremony? Thanks.

Jeeez....grow up. So what if they get mentioned on TV, it's only one song at a fairly low volume and all of you start having orgasms

Its "And I Will Kiss" by Underworld.

Its only on the iTunes album at present and its one fabulous 17mins and 15seconds piece of music.

West End Girls makes an appearance on the compilation too in an edited 2:25 form.

No doubt there isn't, because the International Olymic Commitee are on the warpath. I was looking for clips of Rowan Atkinson's performance last night and couldn't understand why there wasn't any, and just when I thought I did, it was blocked by the IOC on copyright grounds.
