Aren't the Christmas EP tracks all a-sides anyway?

I reckon 3,6 and 30 won't make it on.
Also hoping 14 won't make the cut, not to mention 32 and 34.

Re: New B-Side album called Format set for February 2012 rel
It seems unlikely all those songs fit on two discs, so I suggest they skip at least "In the night '95", "Discoteca" (no need for alternative versions in my opinion), "Disco potential" (a real stinker!), "Je t'aime" (very poor cover), and the songs from the Christmas EP (as someone said, I'm not sure they even count as B-sides). But Neil said "all B-sides"... a triple-CD set?Being boring wrote:I made it 42 tracks, so 21 on each CD doesn't sound implausible.bobo wrote:All the 1996-2009 b-sides surely can't fit on two cds if they don't edit them heavily-possibly different tracklists for cd and digital release like Depeche Mode did for their remixes album? I don't think they will, but I'd be okay with We're The Pet Shop Boys as a kind of electro anthem.themgnt wrote:I hope they re-record a B as a single. I liked that idea with Paninaro.

If it's going to be b-sides up to 2009, it's going to need to be a 3CD set, even if they drop the Christmas songs and remixes... in which case, they might as well put everything on.

Jack Carrington who conducted the interview has kindly advised me via Twitter that there will be 38 tracks according to Neil.
What's for supper?
Re: New B-Side album called Format set for February 2012 rel
I think these songs deserve a release - with illustrative booklet and associated artwork. The release will help tide us over until the new album and provide a moment of retrospection in the build up.
I think there are a few they could chop (Party Song, Screaming, Searching for the Face of Jesus, Blue on Blue, Nightlife, and In The Night '95 can all go as far as I'm concerned).
It won't be a patch on Alternative, but there are still some essential moments on there (Always, The Resurrectionist, Bright Young Things, Sexy Northerner, and most of the Yes bonus tracks).
That interview was superb, by the way - a real old school laugh. Chris and the cake, the Steps argument, and Neil's Japanese Web site leak are all comedy gold.
2012 promises to be intense. We don't deserve them, really. They're too good for us.
Drico.

Re: New B-Side album called Format set for February 2012 rel
Greetings,
- The mix of No Time For Tears likely for inclusion was also on the Minimal DVD
- Nightlife was on the Home And Dry DVD but was also on the U.S. 2CD edition of Release
- Friendly Fire was on the I Get Along DVD but was also on the U.S. 2CD edition of Release and C2H Telegraph promo
- Girls Don't Cry was on the I'm With Stupid DVD but was also on the I'm with stupid German/international CD single
Having We're All Criminals Now on CD would be nice given it was only a download release.
Fingers crossed that if it does extend to 3CDs they might take the opportunity to slip in some rarities, given that any possible extension of the Further Listening series is looking increasingly remote. The following come to mind:
- A Powerful Friend (has anyone mentioned this b-side yet?)
- Fugitive (has anyone mentioned this b-side yet?)
- Positive Role Model (was also a b-side, but it was on Disco 3)
- Transfer
- Break 4 Love (well, it was a b-side, as well as being an a-side)
- Love Life
- Demos
- Peel Sessions
- Birdman tracks
- Barfly versions
- Run Girl Run
- Some of the old website exclusives that were being saved for FL compilations
I think they should. This isn't Alternative 2, so needn't feel obliged to follow the Alternative format (not that this stopped them with Disco 2-4). If however, it really is 38 tracks only and the above shortlist of 42 is what they're choosing from, I'd expect to see No time for tears and In The Night 95 go because they're alternative versions of existing songs, and the Christmas EP tracks to be dropped, because that's an actual EP.
Retro.
- Blue On Blue was DVD only (unless you count that US 3-tk promo)... which is precisely why I wouldn't want to see that one dropped from the list.Radiophonic wrote:What were the songs only released on DVD singles?

Very excited and I happen to LOVE the title...
I think it intentionally goes with the title "Alternative"... In other words, the title of their complete B-Sides collection is:
ALTERNATIVE FORMAT.

3CD could also have Fugitive and This Used To Be The Future, one an essential track, the other nearly so.
Birdman tracks would be great as well. It already won't be a consistent listen like much of Alternative, so why miss this opportunity? And how many more fans will buy it if it was rare or more complete tracks? Does it cost that much more to make a 3CD set?
But as Drico says, if we can get an interview like the Alternative booklet, that would be excellent. That was the first writing about the boys I ever read, and I've reread it maybe 10 times since.

Very surprising news indeed, nonetheless this may be their best album since... Alternative.
If it's indeed 38 tracks I suppose it may be the ones in the screenshot below (excluding Christmas and any remakes), with a total playing time of 2:36:58 or 157 minutes - 2CDs fit 160 minutes. Track 1-18 = 78 min, track 19-38 = 79 min.

Why??? For recycling old material for which I already paid for. Nope there is no othter reason for this release than let us fans pay again for something they already own. Stupid pointless release. I haven't bought a PSB release since the Together single and even that was a poor single. Perhaps it's time to quit.Drico One wrote: 2012 promises to be intense. We don't deserve them, really.
