Well, you're more observing and quickier than me , thanks.
"I think it’s an amazingly good album, I’ve got to be honest with you. It’s one of the albums I feel most proud of. But for people who don’t really know us, and have a sort of an idea about us, ‘Electric’ is more what the Pet Shop Boys are meant to be."
(Neil Tennant, speaking about "Elysium" on the eve of "Electric" release.)

Last year sometime I spent an entire PSB afternoon on Youtube.
I think my favorite things were fuzzy VHS transfers of really early promotional appearances on tacky chat shows in Japan and Germany, the schmaltzier the better. Of course they beat us to ironic appreciation of it 20 years ago, the interstitials on "Television" played up their campy appreciation of the unhip shows they appeared on. And God, they look so young, even though Neil was 32 or so. But I really appreciate whoever it was out there who digitized and put these fuzzy vids on YouTube- that's love and generosity there.

One exception to the camp factor was when they appeared on BET (Black Entertainment TV) in the US in 86 or so. I remember seeing this as a teen, the host Donny seemed informed and knowledgeable of their work-they seemed pleased-, gave them all the dry ice fog they could ask for in a TV studio, though I may be misremembering that part. It was striking at the time because they were literally the only white artists I'd ever seen on BET. It didn't have the reach or hipness of MTV, but it was a very unique, very PSB thing to do. This is when they were declaring West End girls and Suburbia were straight-faced hip-hop, lol.

I also like the long excerpts from "It Couldn't Happen Here" with Japanese subtitles adding, obscurely, to the cool factor..

Funny stuff. The du-du-du's made my day!
It's one of their worst songs though, I think...
