Re: What's the most impressive thing PSB have done?

Their sheer musical diversity. They can compose something completely clubby one minute, pure pop the next, lush ballads, show tunes, a musical, a film score, a ballet and so on and so on.

Re: Afternoons with the Blinds Drawn

I'm looking forward to this book. The Sky Arts documentary about Suede last year was excellent. Well worth watching even if you only have a passing interest in Suede.

Re: BBC4 Top of the Pops Repeats

I'm rather excited about the arrival of It's a sin in a few weeks. It will stand head and shoulders ahead of everything else in the charts.

Re: I flit

Fact of the matter is that PSB's output has remained remarkably consistent over more than thirty years. There has been no period of significant dip in quality. Yes, perhaps the Bilingual-Nightlife-Release era wasn't quite as consistent as the ones that came before but they still yielded a large numb...

PSB on Boogaloo Radio Show

Apologies if someone has already posted this before but Bernard Butler has a radio show with Mark Kingston on Boogaloo Radio and during the post-Christmas lull I found this episode which is entirely dedicated to our heroes. It makes for a very enjoyable listen. There's nothing new from a PetHead's p...

Re: BBC4 Top of the Pops Repeats

I hadn't seen it either. I was wondering last night, given that the BBC4 'The Story Of 1986' documentary didn't feature PSB do we think there may be an interview or something with Neil and Chris for The Story of 1987? It is being broadcast on 4 January. It feels odd not to draw attention to PSB's ma...

Re: Popjustice, Christmas and "Always on my Mind"

I do think Always on my mind gets overlooked. Whilst it isn't exactly 'Christmassy' it is a quintessential Christmas hit- a cover of a sentimental classic, done in an entirely memorable way, big budget video and a song that somehow caught the zeitgeist of the times. I can see why it doesn't appear o...

Re: Do you expect news from the new album for Christmas?

There is normally on the OS alongside a Happy Christmas message some hint as to what they are going to be up to in the New Year. Whilst we already know that a new album is due in the autumn maybe they will update us at least on how much has been recorded so far and give further details of their othe...

Re: "Annually 2019"

It is a bit of an odd moment in the album 'cycle' for it to be coming out because presumably they will still be in the midst of recording it. So I doubt we'll get a Diary of the writing process. But maybe we will get a few teasers?

Re: Poll ends soon on ranking the first five PSB studio albums

When you look at those first 5 records it's hard to think of another band who have had such a consistent early output. Five incredibly strong albums and each with a distinct feel. And it's not as of they played safe on them. Introspective and Behaviour in particular were creatively quite risky for t...

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective

Drico, I would happily read an entire book of your musings on PSB. They are so insightful and thought provoking. Far better than any passing critic. If we're never going to get a Neil Tennant autobiography then a volume of Drico's musings on PSB would be a good alternative.

Re: Dricography: Ranking Nightlife

I realise I might be in a minority of one here but I like The only one and Footsteps. I think they fit in well with the sound and mood of Nightlife. They're full of paranoia, insecurity and longing. That's essentially what is at the heart of Nightlife. It's Happiness is an option and Boy Strange tha...

Re: Dricography: Ranking Introspective

For years I didn't listen to Introspective. After an initial flurry of excitement when it came out it, it just drifted off my play list sometime around 89/90. I have always absolutely loved the 7" singles but rarely took the album out for a spin. Then this summer on a hot July evening I was at a par...

Re: Super tour to Japan in February

Interesting. I was assuming that the Super Tour was finished and that the early part of next year would be spent in the studio with Stuart Price (most likely in LA).

I do find it amazing how they run their different tours so close to one another these days. They are almost constantly touring!

Re: In the studio: 21 songs for the new album so far

I think Price has done a good job for PSB. I understand the criticisms and ultimately it does all come down to personal taste. But he has made them sound very current and for the songs they had on Electric and Super it worked well. In my view Electric is a modern day bona fide classic PSB album. But...
