Re: No more LAYERS please!

There was interview given by Pete Gleadall I think, although it could have been Bob Krushaar, back in "Literally" around the time of "Bilingual" where they mentioned the sentiments you're echoing. In the interview they stated they were always counseling Neil and Chris to strip back their arrangemen...

Re: When you stop liking the music as much

I've never understood the concept of a Pet Shop Boys fan who also likes Erasure. It's like a coffee lover who's happy to take decaf from time to time. Are you liking them because you get bored in between PSB albums? Classic trolling 😂👏👏👏 Nope, no trolling. I find it incomprehensible as well this Er...

Re: No more LAYERS please!

Greetings Telys, I hear what you're saying, and the album mix of Dreamland is a good example of "more is less" in terms of tossing everything in at once, and giving no real sense of light and shade, but Pet Shop Boys do still do many pared back arrangements. I suspect (and tell me if I'm wrong) wha...

No more LAYERS please!

The modern sound of PSB... The problem is LAYERS. To many layers of musical ideas on top of eachother. That's why New Order's latest album is so great, they don't do that layers stuff, they let the listener get acquainted with the ideas separately and then bring together and separate them again etc,...

Re: Interview about favourite song

A good interview. Chris tells the story of how he heard Passion for the first time, asked a DJ about the name of the song, got it written down on a piece of paper, bought the 12'' for 5 pounds and listened to it with Neil (who tells the old story of the bin at Smash hits with all the dance records)....

Death of Ennio Morricone

Italian composer Ennio Morricone as died, 91 years old. Most famous for his film scores, particularly the Dollars trilogy. For us PSB fans it is of course It couldn't happen here that comes to mind, one of PSB finest tracks.

Re: Cicero - Love Is Everywhere Demo

Why wasn’t Cicero huge? Four banging singles, a track on a successful film, the weight of PSB behind him. In hindsight I think there was little marketing and not enough money behind it all. Had he been signed by a major with a decent advance, I think he’d have been very successful. As it was it fel...

New pet text - old cassettes

Neil has dug up "old cassettes from various studio sessions" and posted a pic. https://www.petshopboys.co.uk/pet-texts/2020-06-16/cassettes Now, is there anything of interest here? Some "monitor" mixes of Performance and a few session mixes from the 80's. Anything that sheds any light on songs/track...

I don't wanna - hey, those remixes are really good

Wow, can't keep my ears off them. Those remixes on the 12'' of I don't wanna are amazing. I don't really listen to them as individual tracks, more like one long remix. When the cowbell sets in after three minutes.... Feels like a perfect merge of the 80's and the 20's. Amazing that something that a ...

Re: Really bad experience Pet Shop Boys Shop

Horrifying. I've had problems as well but not as severe as yours. Really sorry. I always try to use other sources when I buy records, trustable local resellers, but when it comes to stuff like Annually etc there is no choice avaiable.

Hints in interview about PSB early days

Neil is interviewed in The Guardian after the triumphant best nr 1 achievement. "We recorded three other songs in an hour and a half", he says about what followed immediately after the '84 recording of West End girls. Which three? There is also mentioning of the very first version of West End girls,...

Re: Pet Shop Boys - Restored

Doesn't look like an impressive collection of songs but there are probably four albums worth of material from 1981-1985 lying around. Time to release it.

The Montreal mixes have extra WEG-lyrics "Looking left, turning right etc..." It's an enigmatic song
But hey, three versions of Pet Shop boys? I only know of one... enlighten me please!

The best remix ever

Hey, I sometimes tend to think that Keyan's permanent ecstasy mix of We all feel better in the dark is the best remix of a PSB song ever. I mean, it's 15 min 40 sec long and combines all of the remixes of WAFB in seamless smooth way. And may I remind you, it's 15 min 40 sec long.
