Re: Single or album version preferences

One of the things I love about Fundamental.... I hate a fade out... unless the song actually demands it for some reason... like Into thin air... and even then there's a properly written ending AND a fade out. Singles that are noticeably better* than their album versions? Suburbia, Burning the heathe...

Re: Track-by-Track: From Please to Nonetheless

Yeah, I've always felt the song hints at a "united, we can go anywhere, achieve anything"... so "divided by zero" can mean "nothing divides us". Along with lots of other possible meanings as well of course... such great opaque lyrics... paired with such driven exciting ...

Re: Your Instant Classics

A few that have hit instantly when first heard…

Always.

Fugative.

Love etc.

A face like that.

Axis.

Inside a dream.

An open mind.

I will fall.

All grab you as soon as they start. Before you’ve got more than a few bars into these songs on first listen, you’re hooked. For good.

Also understandable why some would see this as a slight on the millions of soviet soldiers that helped fre...

If this had more than the one video on it as extras, I’d buy it.

Re: New album Nonetheless

If you’re a vinyl player… pick one colour. If you listen on your home cinema setup, get the BlueRay. The rest of us have the double CD that fans want. There’s a single CD for everyone else. A sound release. In line with modern listening habits of those not moving to streaming only. Remember the Elec...

Re: Pet Shop Boys in today’s Guardian

“Sadly not a cover of Vic Reeves’s Dizzy”

Shoddy journalism… that was a cover.

Anyway, short, quick and to the point pop banger… perfect Eurovision.

As for Olly… a young woman pulling of his moves wouldn’t have anyone batting an eyelid.

It was Mark Refoy contributing (played on the Release tour) not PSB. I think.

Re: New album Nonetheless

I’m still very nervous about this album. Loneliness is a great opening track and single… sounds amazing. But the singles that came before the Blur and Depeche Mode albums also sounded amazing… but both those albums suffered from sounding like jam sessions, or demos, or soundboard recordings. Here’s ...

Requiem in denim and Leopardskin
Loneliness
That’s a big gap between those two, isn’t it!

Makes me think that there must be a fair few songs in that period that could be arranged for orchestra for a future performance. Wiedersehen jumps to mind first. Oh, and The Forgotten Child.

Re: Piano Room Month - 2024

Neil not singing the chorus of Dudes was an odd choice. The bit that everybody knows. I know, I know, but on a cover you can make the song your own in any way you see fit… and singing those famous lines with the backing singers would have made it more Pet Shop Boys, I think.

Re: Nonetheless album cover meaning?

The lights just strike me as an “obscured by light” idea. Another way of portraits being used while hiding much of their faces. Like the blindfolds and gloves in front of faces on the single. Or in the past… motion blur for Nightlife, reflections on Hotspot, boxes on Did you see me coming, looking d...
