Re: Pet Shop Boys - SMTV
From memory it was the week New York City Boy was released in the UK - pretty sure they aired the video on CDUK, which was broadcast immediately after SMTV.

Re: It's A Sin Sample from the Apollo 11 audio
I always figured on some level the connection was the line "guidance is internal" which is sort of what the song's about - might just be a coincidence I suppose!

Re: Hotspot: 1 year old today
I've gotta agree with the previous two posters - it's still my favourite of the trilogy and one of my overall favourites since Very. It has a darker, sadder quality like the best bits of Elysium or Fundamental - but its shadows are exciting, the way Actually or the Behaviour era B sides are. When Wi...

Re: Was Please released on CD straightaway?
Nerd question time. Was Please released on CD at the same time as the LP and cassette, or did it come out solely on those formats at first? No, I was researching the Record Mirror CD charts a year or so ago, and that led me to conclude that the CD was likely released in June 1986, whereas the LP/CS...

You're right! I've owned this LP for 22 years and never noticed that...karnsculpture wrote: ↑Sat 08 Aug 2020, 3:39 pmNote also that the rear of the UK LP sleeve just has the catalogue numbers for LP and cassette, not CD.

Was Please released on CD straightaway?
Nerd question time. Was Please released on CD at the same time as the LP and cassette, or did it come out solely on those formats at first? I'm asking cause I stumbled across these magazine adverts which clearly advertise it as a new "album and cassette" but make no mention of the CD. By t...

Re: How many Tennant/Lowe-tracks?
I've checked my Please CD and the Further Listening CD. The original doesn't have writing credits, Further Listening states Lowe/Tennant. It's credited only to Tennant on the side B label of the original LP release - strange that the CD doesn't carry any writing credits! Don't own the remastered LP...

There's at least one other - isn't Later Tonight credited to just "Tennant"?leesmapman wrote: ↑Wed 05 Aug 2020, 5:50 pm I think it's all of them minus one, that one being Two divided by zero (and indeed, minus the covers)

Re: Question about the b-side of the Ab Fab 7"
Haha, if English is your second language then you're doing WAY better than me! She isn't pronouncing the words "properly", is the thing, but that particular kind of fast mumbling is very standard in conversational use to Brits so it just sounds normal.

Re: Question about the b-side of the Ab Fab 7"
I take this opportunity to ask what you think about the Dull Soulless Dance Mix. I never liked this remix. Quite boring, too repetitive. Rollo's one is head and shoulders above. And I never managed to figure out what Joanna Lumley is saying in this sentence. Lyrics in the Very/FL booklet say "...

Q2. Name songs that have the same lyric in both. I did observe a couple...cannot remember. The party's still in full swing (Bright Young Things) All I know is the party's in full swing (Pandemonium) Not quite identical, but the same phrase at least! Half a point for "when I look back upon my l...

Re: ‘The land of dreams is better far...’
Yeah, it means the same as "is far better". The full verse mentions the real world ("this land of unbelief and fear"), then says the land of dreams is far better than that one. It's an unusual order to put the words in but the meaning isn't changed. The PSB quotation is a little ...

Re: Neil Tennant announces new book
Slightly off-topic, but might we get another book from you analyzing another PSB album? One can hope! 8) Gosh that's very flattering. I don't know if Repeater would go for more of the same, though also I kind of assumed on top of that no one would actually want any more. I am meant to be writing an...
